From our professions to our backgrounds, everything conspired to keep us apart. But from the moment we'd met, all I could think about was being together.

For high-class prostitute Shelly Laurent getting out of the business hasn't been easy. It's hard to get another job. Afterall, what can you put on your resume? But despite her promises to both herself and her friends to stay out, she's lured back in once more.

Detective Luke Cameron is attracted to and protective of Shelly. Unable to save her fro

Amber Lin has once again produced a winner with this second installment of The Lost Girls series! While Selling Out may be slow starting as the ground work is laid, once done, it’s raw edginess will quickly pull you into the seductive and sobering lives of a prostitute and a cop….and then it becomes very hard to put down.

We’re first introduced to this couple in the previous book, Giving it Up. For the first time, Shelly’s deeply attracted to someone. But she’s afraid and doesn’t feel worthy. On

Shelly's had a hard life but has been trying to turn things around. That all started when she met police officer, Luke Cameron. Something about him is just...different. She thinks it's his light to her dark. Little does she know how far off she really is.

I must say that even though I really liked the first book, I really enjoyed this one. A lot of that has to do with all the background details we get about Shelly and Allie. Everything makes much more sense than it did before.

Gritty and poignant, heartbreaking and triumphant, Selling Out is a truly beautiful love story.

Selling Out is one of those stories that will have you thinking long and hard about your feelings on prostitution, regardless what your stand on it actually is. Through Shelly's experiences, Amber Lin shows us both the harsh, and the not so harsh side of the oldest profession on earth. It's a story told from Shelly's point of view, but we also get up close and personal with wh

This is another edgy and raw contemporary romance from Amber Lin (which still sounds like Ann Boleyn in my head!). She has a beautiful, atmospheric writing style and you’re not going to find sentimental love here, nor are you going to find hearts and flowers. This is taut, compelling, thoughtful and also gritty, earthy and unembellished.

We first met Shelly in Giving It Up as Allie’s best friend. She’s been a high-class call girl most of her adult life but she’s trying to go straight and we first

I didn’t just want him to believe in me. I wanted him to think the worst and protect me anyway.

Amber Lin’s no-nonsense and unapologetic approach to mixing prostitution with suspense and romance is unlike anything I have ever read. It’s gritty, angry and violent mixed with hope and the quest for freedom, acceptance and love. If you thought Giving It Up was really good, Selling Out is, in short, amazing.

Selling Out takes place almost a year after Giving It Up. I don’t think it’s necessary to have

I really enjoyed Selling Out. I had a harder time relating to Shelly than expected. But considering her tragic past and profession--you'll never hear me complain about that.

Luke was a surprising character for me. His issues were unexpected and leveled the playing field. It wasn't necessary for the story, but it was necessary for Shelly. Luke's friends also give great, light-hearted moments, along with Shelly's "sure, blame the hooker" jokes.

"Forgiveness isn't about whether you deserve it or not. It comes freely or not at all. Like love."

I enjoyed this much more than Giving It Up. I thought the character development was better as well as the flow of the story. A gritty, raw look into the world of prostitution combined with an intense love story. Really enjoyed Shelly and Luke and how after much struggle, both found themselves worthy of love.

Amber Lin has again written an intriguing story about love, sex and what 2 people will overcome to have it all. Pasts that have run a parallel course; the present bringing them nearer to each other and a future that could be very bright if they find the way to let go and be themselves.

Shelly, a high-priced prostitute, promised Luke she would get out of the life after she was shot in a sting operation where she was his informant. She’s

First of all, I’d like to say that the blurb is a teensy bit misleading. Shelly, our heroine, hasn’t REALLY escaped her life as a high-class escort. She THINKS she has, but she’s brought right back in, early in the book.

In the opening scene, Shelly, thinking she’s out, tries to apply for a job at a bookstore. As you can imagine, it doesn’t go so well. But right from that very first encounter, you’re hooked on her (ugh, pardon the pun, please!). Shelly’s life st

In the 2nd book of the Lost Girls series, we get to spend some time with Shelly, a high-class escort. In the previous book, Shelly was an informant and got shot. We met Luke, the cop that Shelly was informing for and it was obvious there was some heat to them.

We start off Selling Out with Shelly trying to get a real job. She had given up her life of turning tricks and was trying to make a g
A slow start as Amber Lin sets us up, but necessary in order to understand this dark gritty story that reveals a web of deceit, lies, and betrayal that will shock you. I found the voice and pacing of this installment much smoother then book one. Shelly and Luke are interesting protagonists whose lives have not left them much to smile about. A hooker and a cop sounds romantic but this isn't Pretty Woman. Shelly sn;t looking for a prince charming and Luke doesn't want to just save Shelly, he wants ...more

Love wasn't a choice; it was an accident. Not a climb but a fall.

Selling Out by Amber Lin is another novel that I will mark as another one of my favorites for the year, thus far. With twists and turns, surprises and shocks throughout the novel, I white-knuckled my way through the pages. This is a book I happily and eagerly agreed to review and be a part of the blog tour based on the author alone. I hadn't read the book description beforehand nor did I know what the content would be. Selling Out, the 2nd installment in the Lost Girls series, is another testament to Amber Lin's writing and plotting prowess.

You might remember Shelly from Amber's previous book, Giving It Up. The prostitute with the heart of gold, who sells her body to keep Allie and Bailey safe, gets her own story in Selling Out.

The book picks up a few months after the end of the previous novel, and Shelly is trying to keep her promise to hot cop Luke. She just doesn't know how.

I haven’t read book #1 in this series so I wasn’t sure whether this could be read as a standalone. I was aware that each book follows a different character therefore I decided to wing it, not without a warning from a fellow reviewer that I would be missing some backstory. I will say I was initially confused, possibly the warning and the awareness that I was going at it ass backwards made me feel that way. The author has definitely provided a lot o

A hooker with a heart of gold.

Okay, that's not exactly accurate. Shelly is really a high-priced escort, and her heart is made of diamond-encrusted platinum, much better than gold. She's a genuine sweetheart who will do anything to help someone in need, even a brat of a newbie hooker who would just as soon punch her in the face as be rescued. But Shelly is also incredibly damaged. She pretty much thinks she's worthless and can do nothing but this thing she's been brought up by an abusive father t
This is the Book 2 of The Lost Girls and it can be read as a standalone, but let me recap what I learned previously. From Book 1, we know that Shelly is Allie's best friend, she is a prostitute, who helped Allie's financially when she was pregnant and homeless. Although help sounds like an understatement, she practically sacrifices herself for her best friend. So you see, how much I admire Shelly. She fell for a cop though, named Luke Cameron, by being his informant and betrayal she sugar-daddy, ...more

Selling Out is the second book in the Lost Girls series by Amber Lin. I have read the first book, but it was a while ago so I don't remember much detail. However, this didn't matter as this book stands well on its own.

It tells the story of Shelly Laurent, a woman who escapes her life as a high-class escort. Unfortunately, though, her kind heart means she takes Ella with her. Ella's young and terrified, and because t

Selling Out is book #2 in the Lost Girls series by Amber Lin, This can be read as stand alone, the heroine and hero are secondary characters from book #1 Giving It Up.

Shelly has been a high class call girl from the time she was a teen, she has used the money to take care of others but she wants love more and is trying to get out. Getting out isn't as easy as it sounds with no background and no past experience she can list to get a job.

This was a story that I didn’t expect at all. I enjoyed reading every page. 4 stars

Shelly is a prostitute that wants to get out & change her life. I admired her strength, determination & her wanting what is normal. I loved her spunky side, too. The things that come out of her mouth. Is this a protective measure on her part? She’s in this business because of her father &a

Shelly Laurent is high priced call girl. She’s decided to get out the life and start over. But she can’t get out. Her pimp keeps pulling her back in. At the latest party her pimp has sent her to, she finds “Ella”. Ella doesn’t want to be a working girl. Shelly sets out to help her.

Selling Out is the darkest book I've ever read that uses humor to ease the pain felt as the revelations continue to delve into deeper darkness. Shelly is one of the strongest female characters I've ever read. Despite, or because of, her insanely abusive history, she is a master of sarcasm and innuendo. Throughout the story, she fights for what she feels is right and makes no excuses for her actions. Selling Out is a follow-up book to Giving It

Shelly is a high priced call girl, who is really having a hard time getting out of the business. Finding a job has been a dud, what can she put she has been doing all these years. Then add to the fact that she may meet a previous client. What is a girl to do? Yet she does all she can to help young girls get away from that life. She is in love with a police officer, and he sure has some feelings going on for her. Then there is a murder, and she is trying to save her ass as well as a young girls. ...more

The story continues .... It is Shelly's and Luke's this time. This is a heart wrenching story. Stella has helped Allie and Bailey by selling her body, using this money to keep the bills paid. Now that Allie is safe in a relationship with Colin, Shelly needs to decide what to do with her life. Can she possibly quit "the life" and begin fresh? What about Luke? Is it possible for a hooker and cop to make a go at life and succeed? I recommend this book with caution. This is not a book for the faint ...more

Love them!

I am totally in love with Shelly. Every woman needs a Shelly in her life. Someone who tells it like it is with humor. I am blessed with a Shelly in my life! Luke, oh what a book boyfriend to have. Now Shelly has a hunk of man in her life to call her out on her bs. The whole series is wonderful but so far this couple is my favorite.
