Freedom of speech is being squeezed into ever narrower parameters and we’re lying to ourselves about it; we pretend we live in a free society, yet we can be arrested for having the wrong opinion. Democracy can no longer change the course of our destiny; we can vote all we like, but the course has been set, and all we can do is change one self-serving crew for another. "
Pat Condell was a brave, talented (and very funny) standup comedian in the 80s, in gigs at the Comedy Store and venues around the UK. Unfortunately, like a disregarded prophet in his own country, his routines were way ahead of his time, his avant guard material being considered too politically incorrect for mainstream media, and he never became well known. Luckily, with the advent of internet video such as YouTube, a new audience is catching up with his trenchant reflections on the zeitgeist and his warnings over the erosion of liberty and free speech in the UK … let's hope it isn't too late.

Another must-read by Pat Condell.

February 23, 2013There wasn't a version of this book on Goodreads yet, so I added one.
I ordered this book last week and it'll probably arrive the next week or so.
If it's going to be anything like the last book (which I suppose it will, because after all this book just contains the full transcripts of Pat's youtube monologues), I expect it to be a wonderfully comical collection of common sense.
Can't wait to actually read it!

Fabulous! Now if only there were around 6 or 7 billion more of him. Truth teller and wonderful presentation. Love this guy!!
