I love the message in the story and the illustrations. There are times when the plot seems to have skipped a bit. It made more sense once I read the companion book (for more advanced readers) which fills in the gaps. The rhyme and rhythm are spot-on, which makes this English teacher very happy.

"Be good to your neighbor.
Show others you care.
Speak kindly.
Rejoice with all colors of hair.
Make peace as you journey
So all understand

I tried to read this, but ended up skimming it because it was tedious beyond belief! Yes, whimsical pictures give it a boost; yes, it has a great message; HOWEVER, that message took FOR-EV-ER to be delivered and it was THUMPED all over the reader's head.

BLECH!!!

The amount of the rhyming text is quite daunting to slog through, but the ultimate message is good and it all ends well.
