Who's in Love with Arthur?
Arthur and Francine are a square-dancing duo in gym class. When Muffy tries to switch partners (she's saddled with Binky Barnes!), Francine refuses to trade. a humble missive about an age old dilemma: under heteronormativity can men and women ever be “Just Friends”? And what happens to the possibility of this friendship when it hits the speed bump of implied romance? Can Arthur’s peers withstand the implication that romantic love is not the be-all end-all of human connection? Or that generosity can occur without amorous intent?
At its roots, this text is a formative fable about the importance of clear communication. Without clear communication, we cannot have connection, and without connection, we are nothing.
And, at the end, they square dance into the sunset.

I DNF"ed this book because the kids are mean to each other and I don't love the idea of making fun of people and saying they're in love with other people because they want to dance together. The kids are young; this doesn't need to be a point of conversation for me.

My special needs teen age son, 2 year old granddaughter and myself usually loves Arthur books. However, this chapter book just wasn't doing it for us! It could have been so much better had it been a normal book not a chapter book. Mr Brown just drew out the story and repeated (which to a reader is good because of the repetitive words but makes for a boring book) We enjoyed this due to the familiar characters we've come to enjoy but a very simple storyline was drug out to much for us. I nearly 'lost' my son as I was reading to him, and he was 'done' when we finished.

This was a cute book that would be good for a first chapter book for a student, so probably a high 1st grade student or a second grade student. I think students would be interested in reading this book because it is based off the popular TV show "Arthur".
