Initially picked this up after seeing it referenced multiple times in Zak Bagan's paranormal books. Right away, I appreciated his insistence that careful historical research is the foundation of a solid investigation, and how you can link collected evidence to historical fact to build a stronger foundation of proof. Definitely a dense read, but depending on which particular aspect of paranormal study you're most interested in, some chapters will fly by quicker than others. It helped shift my perspective from some bad habits that were negatively effecting my approach to serious paranormal investigation and for that I am grateful. He did lose me a bit for sure in some aspects which is reflected in my rating. Like, Troy argues that preteen girls going through emotional and sexual turmoil can actually develop telekinetic powers but spirit boxes/Ovilus devices are all hoaxes? Yeah, okay... But overall, this book is a MUST read for anyone who wishes to investigate the paranormal, as a hobby or otherwise
I learned alot from this book on the topic, but a little too much on topics that I could have researched on my own if I wanted to, such as the history of photography, starting with the first photograph. I did learn alot about how to conduct investigations and what equipment one would need. I still need to learn HOW to use that equipment. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic, but there is not any ONE book that I think would serve as a single complete reference. I will continue reading other books by other authors on the topic.
So far I haven't read a better guidebook than this. It describes both the basics and more advanced stuff, generally everything each ghost hunter should keep in mind when doing paranormal investigations.
The language is simple (I'm non-native English speaker), but I have to say, the font is terrible, generally, the DTP and pages layout seems unprofessional at least.
Still, the content is what really matters, and the content is good.
some good information in there for preparing for ghost hunt...not sure if I agree with all his opinions but like he says many times..they are HIS opinions....and it is all up to the individual to decide...if interested in ghost hunting worth reading though
Not a bad little book. Mostly concentrated on how to ghost hunt which was semi interesting but if you have seen a lot of ghost hunting shows its all the same stuff. I wanted to get to the ghost stories and most of them were VERY short unfortunately. But overall not a bad book.
A great introduction to the scientific investigation of the paranormal. While, I don't agree with every word in this book, it's a great "first" for the new Paranormal Investigator!
