If love is a drug...then affairs are its "crack." Jake Arnett met the woman of his dreams ...but she belonged to someone else. "A Change of Needs" is a unique, atypical, often uncomfortable modern-day love story about what happens when one ordinary man accepts the invitation to cross that imaginary boundary each of us draws around our life that defines us, only to find he' ...more

Recommends it for: Anyone looking for less fantasy/more real, when you can't tell if it's true or not it's good fiction
Shelves: romance
I'm a Native American Sioux originally from South Dakota who moved to Charlotte, NC in 2000 to follow my "foolish heart" and a wayward man I thought I could change, then to the Raleigh area 2006 post-divorce, and there's probably a story in that :)) I thought that relevant because I definitely have a taste and appetite for all things different and "left of center" and this story has a rawness my upbringing gave me an appreciation for... Your book wasn't at all what I expected. I can't say that's a "bad" thing, though. It was a roller coaster ride of emotions for me, a married woman, and a keen observer of everyone around me. What I really enjoyed and found unusual in today's line up of novels is your ability to involve the reader in the journey. You speak directly to the reader and consistently so. I liked your tone and slant toward the perspective of Jake. Adding psychology to the mix was very interesting for me, and I have to ...more

Recommends it for: Adventurous people who are tired of the same old “cookie-cutter” romance novels.
Recommended to Patricia by: Quite serendipitously, I found this one all by myself ;)
I read this book, and was surprised yet delighted to see it on here :) ADMIN in all fairness to your readers you need to add a pic of the cover, it adds to the allure and unlike most covers its not just artwork, but inherently symbolic to the title and story... Its the first thing my friends notice on the coffee table and I'm sure you could find one online. Here's a link from your list of retailers to the one I bought http://www.amazon.com/A-Change-Needs-... perhaps you can get one from them... ...more

Distinctive and unique like his wordplay, Nate Allen's narrative style won’t be confused with anyone else's... dangling participles, mixed metaphors and all. Engaging and endearing, his writing speaks directly to the reader and takes them on a journey in such a way they feel intimately involved in the story. Early responses indicate he seems to have succeeded in his efforts to move his audience to ...more
