This is one instance where you can judge a book by its cover. The Media Composer 6.x Cookbook is exactly what it says it is. Want to transcode an AMA file? There's a recipe for that. Don't quite understand how to do a split edit in Media Composer? Look at the recipe.
Benjamin Hershleder's book guides the reader to a better understanding of what the software can do and how it relates to using it in the real world. The information is presented in the format of a recipe. First the reader is presente

This is a well constructed book that will be an aid to a new Avid user into using the software as well as being a handy guide to intermediate and advanced users.
I have been an Avid Editor through many updates of the software, but some basic principles remain the same. The "cookbook" contains great organisation suggestions that are good basic rules we all should remember as well as plenty of how to recipes needed for a new user. There are also tips for the advanced user that they may have not see

Having had a chance to get through this I found it to be excellently written with a good emphasis on basics but also, through the "There's more..." sections, a good amount of in depth tips that many seasoned users will find useful. It is indeed a cookbook, with well laid out recipes for how to complete specific tasks and good emphasis on what to do in preparation for these tasks. A great guide to have around for beginners and a useful reference for the more advanced.

Very clearly organised, this book contains "recipes" for almost any step of the editing work flow.
Excellent for anyone who is learning the intricacies of Media Composer, and a valuable companion to anyone who is returning to the software and needs to catch up with the latest developments.
The plain, no-nonsense attitude is refreshing and the instructions are easy to follow. Keep a copy on your desktop, "just in case".

This book is truly a cookbook through and through. It guides you from the very beginnings of using the media composer to the end. It is a great book for both novices and seasoned veterans. I've been using the avid since the beginning and found a number of useful items in the cookbook to advance my knowledge. Highly recommended for alll users.
