I'm not always a fan of James as I think his advice is quite geared towards upper/middle class ears and at times slightly misogynistic - love bombing is a very simple idea; the giving of yourself completely to your child for a period of time and letting them take the steering wheel. Easy to say its just good parenting but very difficult to achieve when you're shattered, stressed, single, with multiple kids etc - I found the stories very interesting and hopeful and it encouraged me to adapt the i ...more

Some of the concepts in the book really resonated with me, and I may try some of the techniques outlined, but I found the tone slightly patronising at times and I'm not sure that the ideas would work in all situations.

Not a big fan of self-help books in general. I enjoyed reading the examples, but it is mostly common sense: give your child some 1-to-1 time.
