I am a practicing Theravada Buddhist whose main meditative practice consists of Ānāpānasati (Awareness of the Breath), but I have for some time been fascinated by B. Alan Wallace’s writings and translations, and this book proves no exception.

Gen Lamrimpa, a highly experience Tibetan monk, does an admirable job outlining the Samādhi path up to, though not including, the First Jhāna (which, for me, is the best way to describe the Tibetan Shamatha goal and practice).

Ani Tenzin Palmo once said how interesting can it be to stare at a pebble for more than a minute. So how interesting can a book about Shamatha be? The book delivers a great instruction on how to practice Shamatha and should be read by everyone who wants to attain perfect concentration.
