This series is a prequel of sorts to the legend of Merlin beginning in the early years when Merlin is first coming into his magical powers. This is the second story in the five book series chronicling the great wizard’s youth.

As the story opens, Merlin is 13 years old and has the privilege of attending the great council meeting with the ambassadors of nearly every race of fantasy that reside on the enchanted isle as they must decide what to do with the Treasures of Fincayra. He has been charged

OMFG, this book was absolutely amazing. Everything about this book was perfect. My favorite aspect of this book was all of the amazing and inspirational quotes. If you haven't read the first book in this series, don't worry, all of the references to the first book are explained. OMG, all of the characters were developed perfectly and the plot was executed so well and T.A Barron' writing style is one of the best I've ever seen. If you haven't read this book, please do!! As I become more involved in this series I realized that the reason I read books is to get the same overwhelming feelings I experienced throughout it. I got angry when Merlin shirked his task for something personal but I also still felt sympathetic as I remembered that he was still just a young boy. Although I'm not going to say much in case I give anything away, I still feel the terrible sadness that overcame me in some parts of the book, which is something that rarely happens to me when readin ...more

This story takes place on an anchient and magical land called Finycra. Merlin is just starting to dicover his powers and what he is really capable of. But when all goes wrong and Merlin is forced to go on a dangerous adventure where he will discover the souls of the seven songs of wizardry, his powers are truly put to the test.

The Seven Songs of Merlin is the second book of a five book series. It is very well written and is hard to put down once you've started reading. What I don't like about th

Great series the plot is great for anyone that likes fantasy. The only thing I don't really like about this series is that through out the series they build up the character too much.

I had a number of issues with this book. First, Merlin is a dick. I understand that he's supposed to "grow" so he starts out as a dick and then learns to be better, but when he changes so much from the character in the previous book, with little to no explanation, it doesn't work. I mean, having a character who is afraid of his powers and doesn't think he can ever become a wizard walk around acting like he's owed admiration for being given a magical harp - it makes no sense without some explanat ...more

Even though the first book in this series can easily stand alone, I decided to read this next book because I enjoyed the previous. I am glad I read The Seven Songs of Merlin because it was a great read and it was exciting to see Merlin grow more into the wizard he will become.

I really enjoyed the plot of this novel. The plot was very interesting and moved along at a great place. Since Merlin only has a certain amount of time to save his mother, the book moves fairly fast providing the reader wit

Rhita Gawr may have been defeated for the moment, but Merlin's battles aren't over yet. The Seven Songs of Merlin has the legendary teenage wizard embarking on a harrowing new journey, with far more personal goal -- saving his mother. And T.A. This was the first book of the series that I read. Out of order, I know, but it was an accident. I didn’t know at first that this was a series when I saw it at a bookstore for 30% off in 2003. But I didn’t know I had to buy one or two of them to get the discount. I bought it anyway, and was glad I did. I wasn’t expecting much from a young adult series about Merlin, but nevertheless, I enjoyed it tremendously. I recently reread it as I’m reading the entire series now. Wow, this book was so much better than the first! I'm so glad I decided to read it. This was the kind of book I expected to be the beginning book in a series about the childhood of Merlin.

Emrys Merlin is in the land of Fincarya, where he was born. When something tragic happens, he must discover and learn the Seven Songs of Wizardy to become a true wizard.

There are many surprises and interesting adventures as Merlin travels Fincarya in search of the songs. This book was magical and made me want t

The Seven Songs of Merlin was my favorite in the Lost Years series. I was excited to delve back into Merlin's world and recapture the moments i had when I had first read it. The story is fresh and full of excitement, it was the perfect sequel to The Lost Years Of Merlin.

As Merlin is reviving the land with the Flowering Harp, he realizes a place missing in his heart. He misses someone he had left behind and who he had grown to love - his mother. After wwarnings of never leaving until his task is

In the book Merlin, The Seven Songs, the theme is that arrogance can sometimes be a fatal . For example in the book, Cairpre said "The most powerful wizard Fincayra has ever known...Even he was susceptible to hubris. And it killed him."(pg 60) (Hubris-arrogance) This quote shows me that arrogance can cause or lead to something fatal, in this case death. Also in this book, Merlin, the main character, is often called hubris by the many wise people he meets. Throughout the book, he learns that he i ...more

After saving Fincayra in the first book, you would think poor Merlin would get a break and be able to safely bring his mother, Branwen (whose real name is Elen), back to him. Alas, the evil Rhita Gawr had other plans for the boy. When an illness strikes his mother down, Merlin must master the Seven Songs of Wisdom to save her. Did I mention that this requires him to travel all over Fincayra? And in only one month?

The Seven Songs of Merlin is a wonderful fantasy book by T. A. Barron, who has put

The second part of The Lost Years where Merlin was sidetracked from his mission to revive the Dark Hills using the Flowering Harp. - I like how Barron imagined Stonehenge to be created, but how does it get to Earth and England?

- Merlin is SO frustrating!! He is an arrogant jerk who thinks very highly of himself. It gets a little better towards the end, and learns some humility, but most of the book, he is arrogant.

- I'm grateful there is a map in the front of the book. It helped since there was a ton of traveling.

- I love how Merlin receives Excalibur! Naming was my favorite song! I loved that whole part.

- Can't Merlin fol

The second book of the series describing how Merlin became, well, Merlin. While it is written for a younger audience, I felt that some of the themes (in the guise of the Seven Songs) of the book are very poignant and relate to many things.

I love that Merlin is flawed. How does one become such a great legend without flaws, without trials and suffering and discovery? While you kind-of want to smack Merlin at times, he seems much more human and relatable this way. You wonder if he is capable enough

Once again, this story has a slow start, and during the beginning of the book all you can do is shake your head at how stupid Merlin is acting, but when push comes to shove he gets his head on straight, as long as he has Rhia there to keep him going.

This story doesn't have a ton of action in it. You follow Merlin's path has he uncovers the souls of the seven songs of wizardry. Some of the songs have a more intense journey then some of the others, but not terribly action packed. There is always a
