Feed Your Tiger: The Asian Diet Secret for Permanent Weight Loss and Vibrant Health

Rate this book
Forget about restrictive fad diets and "feel-the-burn" workouts. Drawing on Eastern healing principles that date back thousands of years, this is a decidedly different—and superbly effective—approach to weight control through energy balance

Feed Your Tiger is the first book to establish a connection between weight loss and energy type. Author Letha Hadady shows readers how to drop extra pounds through a combination of natural remedies and techniques that draw on both contemporary scientific research and traditional Chinese medicine.

By completing a short questionnaire, readers determine their own energy tiger, bear, dragon, or crane. With this information, they learn how to choose healing foods for their energy type; how to tailor their eating plans to their individual cravings; and how to further support their weight-loss efforts with specific natural remedies—including herbal and nutritional supplements, massage techniques, and stretches.

Feed Your Tiger was the subject of a controlled observational study, conducted at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. The findings confirmed that Hadaday's methods are as effective as they are unique.

I will need to read this book two or more times in order to fully absorb, understand and hopefully put into practice some of its finer points. It was interesting and a wonderful look into Asian culture as well.

I wrote Feed Your Tiger based on my over 20 years practice of Asian healing modalities--diet, herbs, and acupuncture--in addition to two years of clinical observation from groups including nurses and students. The book addresses healthy weight loss, diabetes, lack of will power for maintaining a healthy weight and slim body.

I think most diet approaches fail because they fail to remain interesting, fun, successful, and workable. Some are too extreme and boring! They offer no variety in food choice or force the dieter to use expensive products.

Feed Your Tiger features 4 animal (addiction types:
Dragons, Bears, Tigers, and Cranes

*Dragons - love comfort foods, empty carbs, junk foods, salt, and develop emotional attachments to foods. For example bingeing when depressed. They may be obese or have edema (water retention.)

*Bears -love sweets and have a tummy, diabetes, or emotional cravings for sweets

*Tigers - are food adventurists, sometimes crave alcohol, love spices and exotic foods, movement and dance, get temper tantrums sometimes. They can develop cellulite or circulation problems, allergies, headaches

*Cranes - may or may not have a weight problem. They may prefer to work, smoke, or eat pizza instead of nourish body, mind and energy. They may be food-extremists that fast (eat nothing) then binge. They need balanced nourishment and grounding to maintain health.

This was a cool book. I liked trying to figure out which animal spirit I'm more kin to (dragon for me) and what's the best way to eat for your animal spirit. I've actually tried some of the recommendations in the book and it really does suit me. Definitely recommend this book. I gave it 4 stars because the recipes in here aren't good, but I'm applying the principles to recipes I like.
