The first friend I ever had was a leprechaun. We used to write to each other. I would leave notes for him at bedtime. In the morning, I would find his answer. So begins this true account of an enchanting correspondence that would last for seven years, and a friendship that would last a lifetime. The original childhood notes of Martin Nelson Burton and the warm, fatherly replies of Mr. Leprechaun spring to life in Clint Hansen’s breathtaking paper sculpture world.
A wonderful children's book that I read to my class every year for St. Patrick's Day. I was introduced to this book by the author when I met him at book dinner. It is a true story and contains exact replicas of his letters to a leprechaun. The illustrations are amazing - all done by cut paper. My students love the book and the author was kind enough to respond to the letters we sent him last year. I recommend this book, and his two others, to all primary teachers. He has another one in the works - I can't wait until it comes out!
