Alison Uttley (17 December 1884 – 7 May 1976), née Alice Jane Taylor, was a prolific British writer of over 100 books. She is now best known for her children's series about Little Grey Rabbit, and Sam Pig.
I discovered Alison Uttley and her wonderful books when I picked up a badly damaged copy of The Little Grey Rabbit and the Weasels. Even though the illustrations had been removed from this small book, I fell in love. I am fascinated by the lives of people previous to our own time. Uttley writes of pre-industrial England's rural life using animals as her characters. Since I am also a fan of Wind in the Willows, The Brambley Hedge Series, and the Beatriz Potter's books, it was a delight to find another author in the genre who is not as well known. This book is a compilation of stories from many of her books, chosen to carry us through the course of a year.
