Getting ready for Christmas with Arthur and D.W. has never been more fun! All the holiday excitement--from baking cookies to trimming the tree to watching for the arrival of Santa--is packed into this sturdy interactive board book, all decked out with flaps to flip and stickers to stick.
Marc Tolon Brown is perhaps best known for his series of children's books about Arthur the aardvark, which was turned into an animated television show on PBS. Brown is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for his role on the television show inspired by his books.
He lives on Martha's Vineyard and in New York City with his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. He has three children, sons Tolon and Tucker, and daughter Eliza. The names of his two sons have been hidden in all of the Arthur books except for one: Arthur's Tooth.
A fun interactive book! The stickers are fun the first time you go through and set up the story. It kind of loses its excitement for a multiple read throughs. Love the flaps and hidden pictures to discover along the way. An inconsistent story line with Arthur’s Perfect Christmas, this one clearly came first, but still a fun and festive holiday book.
Adorable board book for emerging readers! Mom or dad may have to help little ones as this one has lift-the-flap surprises and instructions about where to place the (included) stickers. Arthur and his family are getting ready for Christmas, so there are scenes with card-writing, decorating & baking. I've loved Arthur ever since my adult son was a little boy! I saw this in the little free library in my building's lobby and just couldn't resist...
Genre: Children's Realistic Fiction Grade Range: Grades K-3 I think this book was just okay. I didn't feel like there was a ton of detail or excitement in this book. I did like that the story was cheerful and showed teamwork along with family traditions. The illustrations and flaps were enjoyable and engaging for readers. This would be a good book to read around the holidays because it is fun, festive, and full of holiday spirit.
This book by the highly-skilled Marc Brown is a fun one to read (I would guess especially so at Christmas time), and very short. The charm of the story lies primarily in the interactive portion of the book, in particular the flaps that can be lifted to reveal additional pictures and text. I always like Marc Brown's Arthur books. I would likely give one and a half stars to Arthur Decks the Hall.
