"I really enjoyed reading Travis's book! It had many great and fun stories that everyone can relate to. I say, 'Just Read It!'" —Jimmer Fredette, NBA player, Sacramento Kings "I am a huge fan of Travis Hansen! I loved the stories and wish I had read this twenty years ago! Every young man and woman would benefit from reading this book. Inspiring!" —Danny Ainge, president of the Boston Celtics There is a hero within every one of us. Including you. Life can be hard. With all the choices that we face—especially during those formative teen years—it can often feel overwhelming. Sometimes we make the right choices; sometimes we don't. Former BYU and NBA basketball player Travis Hansen has been there, done that. In his book, The New Few Years Will Change Your Life, Travis speaks candidly and openly to teens, offering counsel, encouragement, and direction. Using his own life experiences from both on and off the court. Hansen teaches us the valuable life lessons he's learned about overcoming mistakes and avoiding addictions as well as how to set goals and build faith in the Savior. Included in the book is a goal-setting workbook that encourages us to answer vital and personal questions, create a plan, set our goals, and find the hero within each of us. "I am convinced, beyond a doubt, there is a hero that lies within every one of us, a person that can make a difference in this world every day in countless ways," writes Travis. "Many of us hide that power. We need to find it." It is possible to realize our dreams, find out who we truly are, and become the hero God knows we can be.
I remember watching Travis play basketball at BYU. I loved his tenacity toward the game and how much he cared about playing to the best of his ability. I tried to follow his career in both Spain and Russia and remember how much his Russian citizenship was discussed back here in the states.
One can tell that Travis has had many peaks and valleys in his life, but in the end, the gospel of Jesus Christ continues to stay at the center. I can only imagine some of his trials, both positive and negative, however as I read this book, I could tell and was reminded that there is always someone there to help us get through our trials. Sometimes it is a friend, a spouse, but guaranteed the Lord will always be there to see us through.
Do I feel this book is for an adult? Yes and no. Are there items that I will put into practice in my own life? For sure. In the end, I think this is a perfect book for young men and women, especially during the their critical formidable years as the decisions they make really do start to form their future.
At the end of the book there are wonderful worksheets that can be visible and viable in one's every day life and goals, now and in the future.
I read this book in hopes that it would help me be able to talk with my teen age son about goals and getting where you want to be in life. Travis is great and really candid in talking about what worked for him and also where he made mistakes. This is a great book for anyone to read.
Such an inspiring book. Travis makes some great points and gives motivations for life's approaching challenge. He is no Shakespeare but the content and ideas are awesome! Highly recommended
