Authentic North American short stories enhance students' reading skills, language learning, and enjoyment of literature. The universal appeal of the stories in this book touches students and makes them think. Among the authors included are O. Henry, William Saroyan, Gwendolyn Brooks, Isaac Asimov, and Sandra Cisneros. Extensive pre-reading activities capture students' interest. Post-reading activities check their comprehension, increase their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, and provide thought-provoking discussion and writing assignments. Literary term explanations and tasks enhance students' appreciation of literature.
I liked it because of introducing a new approach about reading short stories more than its English learning aspects. There was a simple way of reading short stories by discovering themes, plots, characters, dialogous, settings, and some poetic properties of american short stories that was enjoyable and practical for me.
using it as a textbook in my English Language Short Stories CA; eventually I will read all 14 shorts within the textbook // I have now finally finished the shorts within the text. I'm very glad I had half to use the last 2 because I didn't like them much. Anyway I have finished all of them now so it counts as a book read.
