There's so much to do at the beach! There are sand castles to build, seashells to gather, sandpipers to run with, and a picnic lunch to enjoy in the shade of a bright beach umbrella.
Anne and Harlow Rockwell capture the joy of a child's day at the beach in clear, vivid images as they explore the world of the seashore through the eyes of the very young.

This is part of a cycle of 4 books about the seasons. (The others are My Spring Robin,Apples and Pumpkins and The First Snowfall) And at the age of 2, my daughter one wanted one of these read to her every night.

The Rockwells wrote their books at just the right level for a small child. Simply told with just enough words and pictures with enough small details to catch a young child's eye--not in-jokes for adults or flourishes to show off the artist's talent. But that doesn't mean these are "Barney

This one was OK but it could have used a little more excitement. But I guess when you're at the beach you don't want things to get TOO exciting. Like sharks or a jellyfish, or having sand in your lunch.
The girl had red hair like Mama but the mom did NOT have blonde hair like Mimi.
The beach we went to was all little rocks and hardly any sand so maybe that was why their lunch didn't get sand in it.

Another day of activity at the beach! Lovely illustrations and simple text describes all sorts of beach activities. The kids expected the last page to describe the ride home, but this book only takes the reader through lunch!
This is a good book for young children about the beach and all of the things that one can do there. It would be a good story to read with a child who has or will travel to the beach.

What else is there to say except Anne Rockwell. Great, simple exploration of a day at the beach.

It's descriptive, short enough for a babytime while still having enough to work for older groups. Nothing super amazing, though. ...more
