The book originally published in Urdu with the name of 'Roshnai' the title of the Urdu work of which The Light is a translation, is considered to be the most authentic record of the Progressive Movement that transformed Urdu literature and had an impact on the literature of many other languages of the subcontinent (GR).

Sajjad saw potential and power in the literature to transform our society and it can be used to convince, realize and reshape people's minds and change the perspective by self-awakening. He believed in scientific thinking and want to see the changing in quantitatively. He wanted literature to be alive and part of life and through this medium, he saw the potential to bring change in the subcontinent.

The progressive literature movement contains fascinating vignettes of famous writers of the time, such as Tagore, Munshi Premchand, Hasrat Mohani, and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. It is an unforgettable struggle of the writers and the first conference of the Progressive Writers’ Association, which was chaired by Munshi Premchand will be remembered. Great writers working for the progress of literature and in-fact a whole society was a sacrifice to bring change and betterment. Freedom was aim which is ultimately a key to progress and success and progressive writer’s association (PWA) work towards this goal and bring massive change which is remembered today and will be remembered.

In the book, you will have the life-changing experience of knowing how this progressive movement was formed and sustained and how it is affecting our lives and literature today.
A very important book to read for the clarity of the history of literature and transformation.
