This story captivates you in a way that a short story rarely can. Everything was so vivid and well laid out that you couldn't help but feel for the story. It was extremely well written and had the ability to engage the reader and keep their interest. Everything was laid out in such a manner as to entice the reader further into this world. I also appreciated the fact that the Roman legionnaires were on par with reality. Although this story itself is a fictional construct, they were not.

A fantastical ride

When a desperate ghost of a Roman soldier finds his long lost wife in the form of a modern day woman in England, he is compelled to inhabit the body of a shy college boy. Brandon, a shy loner, is overtaken by Roman Leader Gaius Lucius who is on the quest to find his lost love. Lucius wife, a full figured woman, was gravely ill and he sought out all the ways of the world to save her. Upon a grave error, he was cursed to roaming the earth as a ghost until he can let her go.

Transitions is just your average boy-meets-girl-meets-Roman tale of romance. It opens with a Roman looking for a cave on a early-century British beach looking for a cave, followed quickly by our introductions to two slightly socially awkward leads.

I don’t want to go too much more into the plot, as this isn’t a long story. Perhaps my biggest criticism of this story is that I would have liked to have spent more time with the main characters – perhaps seeing them more in their element before the th

Love, Ghosts and Ancient Curses!

A witty and exciting tumble through time, Lascelles’ novel takes us from Roman Briton to modern day campus life in a love story that spans the ages.

Always a fan of a plus size heroine, the fact that Helen is also confident and intelligent and just a little (a lot!) bolshy also had me falling in love with this story. The plot twists and turns as we slowly uncover the truth behind the mysterious appearance of an Ancient Roman General in the lives of two university

Despite being relatively short this story has considerable depth. I found the writing polished and comfortable, never unclear or obstructive, and the narrative easily drew me along. All of the named characters are well-rounded, with their own quirks and flaws, and each has an apparently genuine spark of life. If I have one complaint it's that the book is too short - the plot would certainly bear being expanded into something more substantial, and the time covered by these events almost demands a ...more

I was given this book free, for an honest review.

D A Lascelles style of writing had me interested right from the prologue. The characters were believable & I enjoyed the contrast of the characters from the past with those from the present day.

It was only a short book & I did find the plot a little easy to predict as the book went along, but I did find it a really enjoyable read.
