Rate this book
Worn out after her first three terms at the Nocturnal Academy, Alice Dibble finds she needs help to sleep and concentrate. At a low ebb, she accidentally allows some Immaterial imps to influence her thought patterns, and uses her superior mental powers to push her unhealthy father into exercising. When he collapses from a heart-attack, Alice is immediately overcome with guilt.

At the same time, Alice and her vampire friend Milly become involved with a Magick group at the Rainbow Tiger store in Appleton Mall. They are trying to open a portal to the Magick Earth. Although Alice has second thoughts, Milly travels through with them.

When Milly’s distraught parents arrive at the school, Alice is forced to reveal everything. Professor Abbacus proclaims that he and Alice will easily bring Milly back as he knows his way around the Magick Earth. Toby and Carla volunteer to go as well. However, only Alice, Toby and Carla make it through; the portal at the Rainbow Tiger contains a failsafe that prevents the Professor from following. The three children must track their classmate down on their own. They receive help from a wererat named Skittles, but discover that Milly has been captured and sentenced to die the very next morning!

The series has established that there are two Earths; one that Alice comes from, and a majickal Earth that has duplicates of people on the first one. The magcikal Eartj. though, seems to be hundreds of years behind the first one a far as technology goes

Alice and Milly visit a shop at the mall that has were- and supernatural-related things. A woman in the shop is forming a group to go to the magickal Earth. Alice doesn't want to go, but Milly goes

Alice, Toby and Clara end up on a rescue mission and the description of the other Earth is fascinating. There is a major abuse of organized religion on the other side. One so-called priest, though, uses magick against people and executes supernaturals.
Alice and others face a rough task rescuing Milly. Also, the portal to their Earth seems to have closed. Another good book in the series.

This series has been a really good series, but i think that this particular book is missing something. It has a good story line, but doesn't have the same thrill of the first and second book. Since everything about their powers have been figured out, it is not as exciting as thinking up what new powers they may have. Honestly, some parts had me yawning, but I think you will enjoy it.

This whole series is amazing. The imagination and research used had to be incredibly hard. I am finding these books entertaining as an adult. The young teens and up would also find this very entertaining. I am planning on reading the whole series.
