Just from the blurb, and even into the first several chapters, I wasn’t sure that I was going to like Gracie, to be honest. She’s self-centered, controlling, manipulative, and is annoyingly overconfident. Thank goodness she narrates her story, because getting inside this girl’s head makes all the difference. Surprisingly jaded for a fifteen-almost-sixteen year old, Gracie has constructed all kinds of emotional walls and barriers to protect herself, stemming from an unwavering belief that the ...more

Allie Brennan is an amazing writer. If you have seen my review of her book Tight Knit, you would know how much I adore her writing style. It is so easy to get lost in her books. While I loved Tight Knit, I feel like Allie went to the next level with Under the Dusty Sky. I was really glad to get the opportunity to read this title.

To jump right in.. Let’s talk about Gracie. It took me awhile to adjust to Gracie, her personality is a lot different than I am use to seeing from a female protagonist.

Was this book either a hit or miss, you ask? My response:
At least in the GIF image, the ball almost made it in the hoop. This book? Not so much.

Not at all.

Honestly, I don't think I'm too hard to please. I'm also not a picky reader. I can generally tolerate a lot of things... especially a cliched, cutesy rom-com type story? Sign me up! I'm not too good to read romance novels, and I definitely don't have a vendetta against books that are predictable and safe. I love that stuff. Sometimes, a girl

Allie Brennan knows how to write a good book, one that draws you in and makes you feel for the characters. Well her books do that to me anyways. Under the Dusty Sky was no different.

Graceland Holloway is selfish, manipulative, a bit controlling. That's not the real her though. That's just what she wants people to see. I like Gracie, even the fake one for some reason. She has reasons for the way she is and I get it. Graceland took me on an emotional ride, she had me laughing one minute

Absolutely LOVE this story!

Graceland is such a feisty, headstrong character--the youngest in a family of men.
But she's also damaged.
Bentley's just too perfect for words. *swoon*

It's a hot, tense romance I highly recommend by a super talented writer! <3

I read this book on tippy toes. Every pages something would jump out and annoy me and I was sort of going along carefully and not getting too attached because I had a feeling that it could be a DNF if the characters annoyed me too much.
But every time the author started losing me, something or other caught my interest and I kept going. It was a close call.
I eventually got intrigued enough. This book is honest and sometimes painfully realistic. The author doesn't protect the heroine from herself.

**I received an ARC from the author for an honest review**

I read Allie Brennan's first book Tight Knit and fell in love with her writing. When I finished that book I searched for any other work by her an discovered Under The Dusty Sky. The blurb excited me and I couldn't wait to read it, so when the opportunity came to read and review this book I jumped at the chance. Literally, I was jumping up and down. I was not disappointed.

Under The Dusty Sky is not your usual uniform YA novel. Fifteen year

Gracie was a little shallow, self centred and manipulative but she was real. Honestly, what teenage girl doesn't think along similar lines at one time or another? I could totally relate. I loved Gracie's character.
Bentley was honourable and swoon worthy and moments between him and Gracie were really sweet.
Allie has the ability to write a story that flows effortlessly, making a really enjoyable read.
One of my favourite books.Dying for the next one!

I absolutely loved this book. I love everything Allie sends me, really, because each one never fails to make me laugh AND cry. The romance, as always, is swoonworthy. ( it's about time we see some YA romance gender role reversal- a guy that's soft and a girl that pushes everyone away? yes please!) Her books wear you out emotionally, but in a good way. Kind of like after a really hard yoga class, when you feel like you're about to fall over but also really happy and relaxed.

I won an eARC copy of Under the Dusty Sky. I have been waiting to read this book. I really like the cover. Allie does a great job designing book covers. I liked other books of Allie's that I have read. I really liked the story but it didn’t quite unfold the way I expected.

At the beginning of the story, Gracie’s oldest brother Hunter leaves home. He just graduated high school and felt it was time for a change. Gracie takes it really hard because she has abandonment issues. These issues stem from

Under The Dusty Sky was one of those perfect summer reads. It was fast, it was fun, it was full of almost too much chemistry (the romantic kind, not the kind your learn in a classroom) and a handful of well constructed drama. I don't read too many books that are set of a farm, but I liked this one a lot!

The story isn't something that is entirely new. Rich, LA boy decides to get away and ends up working on a farm in

I was so excited to read this book when I first heard about it so when I saw the author offering ARCs to reviewers I quickly put my name in! I was expecting this book to be similar to While It Lasts by Abbi Glines which is why I was really looking forward to reading it but this book was nothing like While It Lasts! It has its own plot and its own characters! The plot of Under the Dusty Sky was great! It wasn't the best plot that I've ever read though! It was about self discovery and about ...more

Cute story....a quick read! Deeper than I hoped for, but at the same time still so very immature. The writing was great, characters well developed, and the small town southern setting is what made me really love this story! The love shared between this family is touching, and the love story is cute too. Gracie, is still in high school, so you get the young and fun carefree girl, but with that comes the what-the-heck-are-you-thinking-you-idiot moments. But didn't we all have those in high school? ...more

Oh man, so behind on my reviews I think I finished this one three weeks ago. So memory is lacking the details on this one.

I do remember being a little bit disappointed because I'd really loved Allie Brennan's first book Tight Knit and was expecting to love this one just as much, and naturally I did not. They book was pretty good but nothing noteworthy, the setting was different which I did like, I didn't much like that her entire family bent over backwards to please her but I guess it's pretty

I remember really liking Tight knit. That there was something special about it. But I never left a review, and now I don't have the details about why. But I can still feel the feelings that book gave me. This book had a storyline that I liked but I felt like more could have been done about it. Ben is a good guy, I liked reading about him. Grace was also interesting. However, I never felt I really got to know them. Can't put my finger on why though. So, an OK read that felt inconlusive despite ...more

Not bad. It needs some editorial work for sure. The voice of the guy MC is a bit too telling, but I liked the way her viewed the main character. Seeing and fearing her flaws, realistically debating what he'd do about it. I like the innocent, immaturity in the girl MC. And the realization that she had been a jerk-face more often than not. 15/16 year old girls aren't supposed to be easy to get along with and I like seeing that in a book if they show growth. I also have a bit of a thing for books ...more

It was ok. Did not like Gracie at all... found myself skipping bough the book but got the gist of it anyways. Won't say this author is a bad writer but just like Lila Felix not too found of the female portage. Although the one from tight knot was not too bad. Found myself board and don't like that when I spend money on a book. May read the follow up, will see.

Overall a really good read! There were some points when I was just embarrassed by some of Gracie's moments and cringed at others. I was able to get into the book and am looking forward to the next.

I grew up on a farm in the Canadian prairies but got the call of the wild and migrated to the snowy mountains of the North where I spend my non-writing time outside doing outside-things.

I write books about young people.

Young people who love hard and screw up big time. Young people who question the world and push against what's expected of them.

Even if it's layered with sweet romance or a cute
