A typical set of short stories about fishing and hunting in and around Ashland, WI. By "typical" I mean slightly embellished, but still believable. From almost being swept away on thin ice to hunting bear, everything is included. A very nice read. Crowley's humor and storytelling technique shine through.

I liked that it was divided in short stories, perfect for a little bits of reading time. This is not a topic I would normally read about, but the book was given to me as a gift. Knowing two of the people in a couple stories was fun, and it was also neat to read more about an area I'm sort of familiar with.

It was 4 stars until the author admits he beat a bat to death with a broom in the last chapter. Shamefully weak behavior for a supposed outdoorsman.
