This is a cream of the crop herbal. I have read maybe 50 herbals and have a half dozen I actually liked including this one. It is concise. It has a repeatable format (usage, actions, constituents) that keeps each herb taking up around half a page while still describing the herb well. This allows the book to fit 800 herbs (I think my other herbals have 2-3 100). The author also does a better job with safety precautions than most herbals (including my favorites).

Ok, so the title isn't very catchy. Book marketing is certainly not his area of expertise. He does, however, have a degree in Pharmacy and has been teaching and researching for 30 years in the fields on pharmacognosy and phytopharmacy. The book contains over 800 concise herb monographs including: constituents, actions, properties, uses, and cautions. It was a required text for this year's class at the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism. And I think it's a great quick reference for any ...more

2 stars. As an herbalist, I used this for mainly researching chemical constituents of plants and sometimes their medicinal uses. Not very helpful when it comes to detailing how's and why's of medicinal uses... Often uses terse cut+paste phrases. Skenderi may be a great researcher and compiler of data, but don't expect to be inspired by this book. ...more
