The illustrations in this book were phenomenal! I really enjoyed the layout of the text on the pages as well. The breaking of the lines paralleled the story of the rain.
Buchanan, Ken and Debby. It Rained on the Desert Today. Illus. Libba Tracy. Arizona: Northland Publishing Company, 1994. Print. Poetry, fiction, deserts, rain. It Rained on the Desert Today tells the story of a town located in the desert that hasn’t had precipitation in a long time. When it finally rains the whole town comes out to enjoy the experience. I think the illustrator does a fantastic job depicting the landscape of the desert. The illustrations tie into the text really well and add emphasis to what the author is saying and shows the reader just how important the rain is to their town. I think this book would be great to use in a classroom to teach the students about the desert and key aspects to the physical region.
