Not as engaging as I would have liked for my 5 yr old, but my twin two year olds who are learning their alphabet loved it! So for preschool, I think it's good. Nice colorful pictures, although they're too young to appreciate the alliteration quite yet.

text to teaching connection
This book doubles as educational and promotes positive self image. For this, I will have a large group activity where the students and myself will sit in a circle on the carpet. We will start at the letter A and go all of the way around the carpet and each student will have there own letter. I will go first and say, "I am the letter A and I think I am awesome!" I will encourage the students to think of something that they really like about themselves be it physical or not (such as fast). The next student will tell me something that they like about themselves that starts with the letter B and so on.

I enjoyed reading this book., and this is most definitely one that I will want in my classroom. This book is great for teaching the alphabet, however personally I would use it for reviewing the alphabet . I would also use this book for encouraging children to acknowledge, and learn about their emotions and themselves .

This book is short and sweet. It can be used to teach the alphabet and ways to feel positive and good about yourself. Each page has a word that describes the main character in the book and the first letter is bold and in a different color to put an emphasis on that letter of the alphabet.

The book has a lot of colorful illustrations. The illustrations are adorable and funny to look at. The book is great for when teaching the alphabet to children. The book has crazy illustrations that kids will try to make sense of.

I love this ABC book. It's just so positive and I love the bold colors and art style. I'm a fat person myself and very sensitive to the depiction of pigs in children's books and this is a great positive depiction.

ABC I Like Me! by Nancy Carlson is the follow up to I Like Me! Harriet and I haven't read the original book so I can't comment on how well ABC I Like Me! complements the original.
ABC I Like Me! is an alphabetical list of positive messages. Harriet liked listing off the letters of the alphabet but was disinterested in the rest of the book. She has a pretty strong self esteem so the messages aren't so much self affirming as obvious.
For young kids who do need a boost, ABC I Like Me! is charming and not overly saccharine. For fans of Nancy Carlson's books, it can be skipped for books with more plot.

This fiction book is about a pig who shares characteristics about himself using all of the letters in the alphabet. Each page tells something about him for example, ("I am awesome, brave, and cheerful") correspond with A, B, and C. This book could be used to teach the alphabet to young children as well as teaching about self esteem and learning to love oneself. This book is good for teaching literacy as well as building community in the classroom.

This is a fun and encouraging book that would help build the confidence of the reader. They go through the alphabet giving something positive about themselves for each letter. I would use this book with second or third graders as the alphabet doesn't coincide directly with each word and that could be confusing. Very colorful pictures.

I'm sorry but are you kidding me? I feel sorry for kids that need to get reinforcement from a badly drawn picture book. Really I do. But there must be better tools out there to use than this to build self esteem.

I really enjoyed this simple cheerful book. As the title implies, the alphabet is used by the characters to describe themselves. I think this would be an excellent choice for the younger grades, which I think is important for me because I tend to lean toward the middle grades, and don't always look for material for younger readers. This was a fun book!

Repetition of the location of the letter boxes and brightly colored illustrations will hold a young reader’s attention, but older children will find the text too didactic.

This book is a great book for teaching letters, in addition to teaching self esteem! I thought this was a great book for youngsters struggling with self esteem issues.

This is a good alphabet book with big letters. Some of the examples are adjectives so it may be hard for children to pick up on the words.
