"Satisfaction guaranteed" says The Washington Post. The night before her lavish wedding, Cressida Forrest went to bed serene and happy. By morning she had vanished--without apparent cause, and without a trace. Shocked, anxious, and uncomprehending, the two families face a long day of revelations, as a complex, fragile web of sexual, marital, and financial secrets is ripped ...more

Meh. Typical Penny Vincenzi. Ending slightly unsatisfactory: after all, what the HELL was UP with Cressida?

Not my favorite Vincenzi, for sure. Truthfully, I wasn't sure I'd finish it or not. I think I finished it because I wanted to find out the truth about Cressida. But we never really do! So it was frustrating, although I don't think Vincenzi wanted us to focus on her. I had a difficult time liking any of the characters. And I detested the only 'poor' character- Tilly, because she had such a huge chip on her shoulder and then she abruptly dropped the whole thing and at the end no more was said abou ...more

This is one of my most favorite authors but the least favorite read, for me, of the books she has written. This is one of those authors that if she wrote a book about paint drying...I would read it. Her writing style cannot be beat. That being said, this book has way to many characters...to the point I'm making a chart to keep them all straight. Over dramatic on some of them and then they just dropped out of the story line. One of those characters goes into the very MacDonald's I was in while in ...more

love love loved it.....until the last page. it was like I was reading my very first penny. lots of interesting characters, strong women, interest men. just wish something ACTUALLY happened to one of them. No real answers to any questions

Another Woman is a usual chick-lit. Warning: Spoilers ahead. I was reading it in the original language and I can state that the language of it is quite simple and you can easily understand everything without much difficulty. However, I don't think that this book is actually worth reading. I really disliked the fact that the ending of this book was so hazy. Even though there are some facts about the characters and their future lives, we can not say what really happened to Cressida or did Harriet ...more

Too many characters, you follow all the stories throughout the book and then she wraps up the storylines within about a page and a half which feels a little unsatisfying. Also annoyed me that we didn't really find out what happened to Cressida, over the course of the book we find out that she is a manipulative incredibly spoiled brat but by the end of the book her family seem to be on her side again with the exception of Harriet. I found it a little frustrating really.

This a typical novel of Penny Vincenzi. It keeps you turning the pages and you want to continue spending time with the characters. While it will not rock you world, it is perfect for what it says: curl up on your couch on a rainy day!

I'm choosing to ignore the existence of Theo in order not to 1 star it. Everyone is so anal retentive that Cressida's disappearance is very fun. I liked Cressida and tbh she's living the dream

At this point, it's really no surprise that I'm a fan of Vincenzi. I always love her books because they are well-written, with beautiful sentences and fantastic plot lines. Her supporting characters are always as fabulous and developed as her main characters, making her books just full of great story.

What set this one apart from others I've read by this author is how the "main" character - Cressida - is not actually in the book

Descobrem-se muitos segredos e mentiras e out ...more

I liked this book--it did keep me turning pages. I agree with other reviewers that it is a little confusing for the first ten or so pages, jumping as it does from character to character when there are so many, and who's who isn't entirely clear.

Once you've got them sorted out though, the story fascinates, and we learn so much about these characters--friends and family of a bride who vanishes on the eve of her wedding. These are all people who move in the privileged society of the upper classes,

Everything is going wonderfully for the Forrest family, at least that is on the surface...
Its the night before Cressida Forrest's wedding to Oliver Bergin, she is happy, calm and excited for the day ahead but overnight something inexplicable happens.
Cressida has gone missing with apparently no trace at all as to her whereabouts, her family are absolutely frantic as they have no clue what has occurred to make her disappear and whether she is even safe as temperamentally Cressida was never the mos

I was able to read an advance reading copy from The Doylestown Bookshop in return for a review. Thanks!!

The action in this book takes place over 2 days near Oxford in England. Cressida Forrest is going to marry Dr. Oliver Bergin, an American, and all of the friends and family have enjoyed a wonderful rehearsal dinner. On the morning of the wedding, Cressida has vanished and over the following hours of the weekend, the very complicated story of Cressida as well as that of her parents, godparents

Looking at the cover of this book, and following my prejudice towards chick lit (sometimes proved right, and sometimes wrong), I would never normally have picked this book up. I'm currently working through our school library, classifying each book by genre and language level to make it easier for our Polish students to select something they'd like to read. When I read the blurb of this book, I had no idea what kind of book it was, and the idea of a disappearing bride-to-be and the subsequent rev ...more

I cant say i liked this as much as other penny vincenzis that i've read, while it did hold my interest theres a few gripes im starting to get with all of her books: the sex scenes are cringeworthy, when i sense one coming up now i tend to skip it...she seems to use things like car crashes in every book...and i hate the way that she gives a character a quirky attribute that ends up being practically their whole personality, for example in this book its the eccentric traveller who spends the whole b ...more

This is an older book of an author I usually like, but I didn't like it as much as her past work. Set on the day of a wedding, it follows the family and guests as they scramble to learn what happened to the bride, who has disappeared. There isn't much resolution of the bride's story, but the stories of the family/friends are reasonably satisfying. While the novel really focuses on the day of and day after the wedding (you'd be surprised how much can happen in a weekend!), it also goes back 30 ye ...more

I made myself finish it. Not sure why... Kind of a chicken vs. egg thing at work with it... Couldn't get deeply into the story so read in short bursts, and couldn't remember who was related to (or having relations with!) whom. Still not sure about some of them after finishing the book. Kept confusing Jamie and Janine as I read, which didn't help. I kept going to find out about Cressida, but didn't really find out anything. Lots of people in the book, which bounces around from person to person, f ...more

I did not like this novel. Somehow, by the format of all the characters being introduced like a tourist guide, I still got them all mixed up and perceived no real character to any of them with the exception of the old explorer, Grandpa Merlin. The vapid, insipid conversations and content of their frivolous lives was off the chart in futility. I got the feeling almost as if Penny didn't write the book herself, but put some inexperienced ghostwriter onto the task. I'm quite dissapointed to say the ...more

Really enjoyed this book. Was engrossed from the first page, and there was never a point where I felt like putting it down. I just wanted to keep on reading to figure out what the next big reveal was going to be. What a fascinating, but messed up group of people! Had a hard time at first keeping track of who was who, but eventually figured it out and enjoyed the story from all the different viewpoints. Interesting that we never got to hear Cressida's view, when really she was the catalyst for th ...more

Finally finished this slog of a book. It went on forever and I'm still not sure why I persisted in reading it. Maybe to figure out what was going on with Cressida but in the end that was only partially justified my finishing it. It just went on forever and a few less POVs or characters would have maybe made it less long and more readable. Not sure if I will try another of these books. Not worth the effort.

Her family, Headline and her agent Clare Alexander are sad to announce the death of their beloved Penny Vincenzi who died peacefully on February 25th.

At the launch of her 19th book, A Question of Trust, last year, Penny said: “If nobody buys it, it will be my last book; otherwise, no, I don’t want it to be my last book … I still love writing and the whole process.” And at the time of her death Pen
