Approaching wine from the reader's point of view, Joanna Simon breaks down the barriers and lays bare all the components that make up the taste of wine. As well as giving a fresh perspective on tasting, serving, storing and matching wine with food, Discovering Wine explores the fundamental ingredients - showing clearly what the grapes contribute to the wine and how the winemakers use them to their advantage.
I read straight through a lot of it. But then I began skimming sections that I knew I wouldn't remember. It remains a good beginner book, and I'll keep it as a reference.
Oh, and there are a lot of beautiful pictures in here :)
Very helpful and informative introduction to the wine- in terms of world wines, varieties, the enjoyment of wine and how wine is grown and made. Useful reference for the future but a little dated given it was published in the early 1990s!
