Overall it has many good notes and thoughts of how we can approach data modeling. The content has an understandable structure which was very helpful.
The book was very easy to read, so don't worry about the 500 pages. The last couple of chapters of the book wasn't deep enough and wasn't necessary for the scope of the book either IMO.
Of course, there are stuff that is outdated or there may be better practices at the moment. But I don't think, the discussion of the latest methods & tools is a goal of this book. That's why it's good to do some research while reading its content, which definitely adds up to your overall understanding.
For me, this was a good book to reinforce what I knew, as well as to try to pick up some key insights that might have escaped me. It covered the majority of database design concepts which I have picked up over the last few years of practical experience in one volume. I would recommend this as a really good place to start out if you are just learning to deal with database design, or if you are starting out with system application design and need to understand how it integrates with the underlying databases.
I made it through the first 6 chapters or so - not an overly interesting or "readable" technical book, but it does a decent job of introducing the concepts and discussing the relevant points. For someone getting into Data Modeling it would have some useful information. For someone experienced it would be more of a skim to review.
Business book. I own the 3rd edition which was co-authored by Graham Witt an old colleague of mine..and I can see a lot of his style carry through in this book.
This is an 'all you need to know book' about the subject.
The book gives all knowledge you might need for making data models for personal projects. You may need additional reading in some fields, but likely the book contains references for further reading. Those are good too.
