My third read. Decent advice. I'm pretty hard on my voice. I talk all day at work, and then I'm often singing on evenings and weekends. I can feel it. Trying to take care of my instrument.

Notes:

(1) Breathe through your nose. It moistens the air so that it doesn't dry out your vocal cords

(2) Accordion in your tummy.

(3) Middle Voice

(4) Using melody

I sought out this book after happening upon Roger Love being interviewed on the Rachel Ray Show a few weeks ago. I was quite impressed with the complete voice transformations he coached three women through for the show, and while I have no question of Love's skill as a voice coach in person, I'm doubtful that anyone could be so effective in changing their voice at home, just by reading his book and completing his daily exercises.

Essentially, Love takes many theories and techniques of voice training that have long been used by singers, and applies them to the spoken word. There's nothing wrong with the principles themselves, but there's not much new there either. Perhaps for someone with no knowledge of voice training, Love Your Voice could be a good place to begin learning, but I didn't think that the book went much past what many of us learned in primary school music classes or choir. Still, I guess the idea of applying these things to speech (as opposed to singing) is somewhat new and unique.

I thought I would learn more from this book. It was rather short, with some brief explanations on speaking more clearly, with inflection etc.
The CD was nice, I like the voice exercises, they are a good warm up in the morning when my voice is croaky.
But, the book was very short and rather general. I didn't feel it got me in it's scope of things. I still haven't figured out which middle voice I should be using.
