This is not a genre that I would normally read but I met the author of this book and found out he's 87 and an ex-film director (The Bitch and The Pleasure Girls) and ex-script writer for The Avengers and The Professionals.

These skills mean he can write and emulate any literary style. What's more the images are painted by his wife who can also paint in any style. What a combination !!

Entertaining book, and I really liked the using of Victorian language. Subplot with Renfield has some elements which could have been left out and treatment of mental illness may feel upsetting and dehumanizing to some.
