About the author

Born in Cornwall, Ben first began writing high fantasy as a hobbyist, later working on a series of early-medieval whodunits before self-publishing the Young Adult Tyler May Series.

In addition to his role as an author, Ben is a published songwriter, a published illustrator and a professional graphic designer. He lives in Clevedon (UK) with his wife and daughters. His three daughters were partly responsible for inspiring the main characters of the Tyler May series.

As a visiting author, he runs Creative Writing Workshops in secondary schools, academies and sixth forms. A Sock Full of Bones is the first of his novels to be traditionally published.

I didn't think I'd like this book but I saw the author (B.J.Mears) in the coffee shop in Clevedon and other people were buying his and having it autographed and I though that was what I had to do if I wanted a coffee and as you know I collect autographs.

Anyway I read it and I don't normally like ghosts and I'm not a teenage girl but I loved this book a very lot indeed. It was very exciting and I didn't know what was going to happen next and so I had to keep on reading all though the night to finish it.

If you like big adventures and spying and mystery and action and ghosts you will like this a very lot.

I bought this for my daughter but, as I met the author I thought I would give it a go. It's incredibly readable and does have a unique plot. I really enjoyed reading it and will get the next one.

There were a few things that grated a little. The teen talk was a bit irritating. I felt it was a bit cliche. The other thing that I found difficult to believe, was the complete lack of concern for or from Tyler May's parents when she 'disappears.' If my 14 year old daughter vanished with just a text saying 'I'm fine,' I would freak out.

Of course, I am reviewing this from an adult point of view and I'm sure that younger people will read it and love the idea of scampering about without parental intervention.

I am intrigued by the device and like the idea of a 'portal' to the ghost world. It's certainly a unique novel and I look forward to reading the next one.

The Haunting of Tyler May is will be a sure fire winner with the preteen and teen female market without a doubt! I enjoyed this book even as an adult with all the mystery, mayhem, magic and enchantment packed in here. Imaging discovering an ancient device that will have so much power to unleash to a group of three normal teens.
Tyler had no idea how it would change her life and get her drawn into a dark diabolical plot to destroy so many lives in London. Her character is brave and bold and I think young girls will be a big fan of hers. Mixed in with the paranormal antics are moments of real girlfriend behaviors. I would highly recommend this one to a young teen girl. She will be hooked and want to go on to read the entire trilogy.

If your looking for an easy book to read with an interesting sci fi adventure type read that you dont have to take too seriously, then this book has a very interesting storyline. It was very enjoyable if a bit too childish for me i still enjoyed it.

Having read book 2 first and really enjoyed it I found this one slow to get going but it did fill in some gaps in the plot which I hadn't worked out by myself, although the lack of action or notice by the parents was unbelievable. Looking forward to re-reading book 2 now.

Twists and plots that intrigued me. More 21st century than Nancy Drew, more probable than Harry Potter.

I loved this book. I had no idea what to expect but just couldn't put it down. While it is written from the perspective of a teenage girl, I found it exciting and very enjoyable as an adult. Can't wait for the next one.

I got this book reccomended by a family friend and it did not dissapoint! The plot was unique and the storyline tense, the characters were believeable too. I liked it alot!
