Imagine having your own talking Christmas Tree! Alice and Tommy named their new Christmas Tree, Emily. When they both heard {it} sneeze soon after bringing it home, {she} told them she had a cold from all the wet weather they'd been having, and it was true, that she was fully alive, but trees weren't supposed to let others know they could hear, see and talk. She even told them stories! If my tree could talk I suppose I wouldn't want to chop it down or watch it die just as Tommy and Alice thought. It was a horrible thought and they didn't want Emily to die.
Now Emily assured them that it was her purpose to be a Christmas Tree. In fact, she was happier then ever they had chosen her for their christmas tree. It reminded me of a story I once heard about the wooden cross Jesus hung on. That too had a history. I wish I could remember the title so as to look it up online because I'm sure it's on the internet somewhere.

This is a very good book - one that puts "Christ" back in "Christmas".

Alice, her younger brother, Tommy, and their parents are out looking for their perfect Christmas tree. After a long search, they finally find a tree they all like, and Tommy decides to christen the tree, Emily. They bring Emily home, thinking that she’s a perfectly normal tree, and then the sneezing begins.
The book is written in the first person PoV of Alice. The pages are peppered with beautiful illustrations. I read this book two days before Christmas and got my kids to read it too. I knew just as soon as I began reading it that it had the potential to be a story that my kids would love.
There are lessons for little ones about not keeping secrets from our parents, as also about seeing trees as living beings who bring untold wealth to our world, the importance of creating happy memories for ourselves and of finding one’s purpose in life.
The best part about this book is that it puts Jesus Christ firmly at the heart of Christmas.
The entire story is tied up with humour, as in the camouflage pajamas, and warmth. The Sneezing Christmas Tree is a special treat for all ages.

Misleading title
I snagged this book to read as a fun family activity. The tree’s sneezing has very little to do with the storyline. Thank goodness my kids are older as the discussion of the tree’s impending death began about halfway through the book. The book does have a spiritual message. While the author links the tree’s purpose for living and dying to Christ’s birth for the purpose of dying for our sins, the storyline left a sour taste in my mouth. This book will not be part of our Christmas tradition.

Bittersweet
This is a really sweet and cute children's story but its a bit sad as well. I like the message of finding your purpose without it sounding preachy.

I just had to write a review for this book. It was so sweet and had such a good message about the real reason for Christmas without being overly preachy. The story is about a Christmas tree named Emily. The family has finally found their Christmas tree and they bring it home. Soon the kids, Alice and Tommy, find that Emily the tree talks. She says that all trees talk but according to "the rules" they aren't supposed to talk to humans, but poor Emily had to sneeze and that is how the children found out Emily's secret. The kids spend time talking to Emily and learning about the real reason for Christmas, to celebrate Jesus' birthday. Just before Christmas, Alice realizes that in cutting Emily down they killed her and the tree would eventually die. The children talk to Emily about their sadness and Emily explains that each tree has a purpose and hers was to become a Christmas tree for a family and wouldn't give up her purpose for anything. Emily then compares her purpose to Jesus' purpose here on Earth to be born, live and then die to save us from our sins. She compares her purpose to the purpose of Jesus and that she is proud that she got to be Alice and Tommy's tree. She also urges the children to find their own purpose in life and to stick with it, even if it seems hard at times.
This was one of the cutest and original children's Christmas story that I have read in a long time. I just felt compelled to write a review to let other's know that this cute little story is out there and it is such a gem. I am so glad that I found it! The message was obviously a Christian one but it wasn't preachy. It was just a wonderful little story about a Christmas tree with a beautiful message. It definitely pulled at my heart strings and I plan on reading the story to my kids tomorrow. It is written as a chapter/picture book and is only about 50 pages long so it wouldn't take long to read aloud. My advice is, if you celebrate Christmas, find this and read this to your kids. Such a great message delivered in such an original way. I loved it! 5 stars!

The Sneezing Christmas Tree by Aaron Kerr
Alice recalls one year when they got their Christmas tree Emily. They had driven to many tree farms and finally found the one for them.
Til they get it home and it started sneezing.
Her brother Tommy and her listen as the tree not only sneezes but talks to them. They learn a lot about Emily's life by listening to her.
Alice remembers what happens when the holiday is over and they did cut the tree down, so it must die? The kids question the tree and Emily will tell them more the next time they talk...
The real meaning of Christmas, Christ was born and died for all of us. The story goes on with Emily requesting 3 things from the kids...
Loved how the kids decorated the trees-similar to what we've done in the past with the kids. Good story and meaning to the real holiday.

An absolutely wonderful story with a bit of Christmas magic enhanced with an explanation of the true meaning of Christmas. Written for a child, any adult would have to appreciate this book. I am so pleased that I won this through goodreads.

Loved this story; totally cried while reading it to my kids. I'm a sucker for animals/plants-come-to-life type stories already. Tie this one in with the true story of Christmas, and what can I say? I plan to read it every year -- to kids, and later to grandkids. And maybe just for myself as well :)

Wow. My fault for not expanding the description but wow. So glad I read it before I read it to my nephew.
The kids find out all Christmas trees can talk and gladly die to be our tree. Just wow.

The story of this sneezing, sa tree was certainly silly
yet original. I had a difficult time staying interested.
This is geared toward mid-elementary age and would be
good reading practice.
