Daniel Stewart, Chief Petty Officer and dedicated Corpsmen, works at the Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy where he carries around two big secrets: one, he’s gay; and two, he’s in love with a very sexy Navy doctor, Ryker Kincaid, who he’s been having an affair with for a year. Yes, Don't Ask, Don't Tell may be gone, but military rules that prevent officers and enlisted from ...more

The blurb sums it up well, Daniel and Ryker have been a couple for a year, but being in the military and being an officer and an enlisted man makes their relationship very verboten.
Ryker wants to make it easier for them, but Daniel doesn't take it well, for some reason, I'm not quite sure why he didn't just sit down and think it through, I thought Ryker made a lot of sense, but being a hot head he runs off and things change.
It's actually a cute short and I liked it a lot, wish it had been l

This was a short story that had so much unrealized potential! I liked both the main characters, the best friend and the plot. I enjoyed the story, but there was opportunity to make this into a full length novel which would have provided a greater depth to the characters.

I bought the Kindle version from Amazon ($3.81) and didn't realise it was only 47 pages. I was a bit disappointed in the length of the book and value for money which was compounded by the fact that the story actually ended at 82%

Relationships between partners who both have a career are never easy, whether it is a gay or a straight couple that is struggling with priorities. But when they're both in the military, even in the absence of DADT, the strict anti-fraternization rules alone could drive anyone mad. In this story's case, it leads to a conflict between what Ryan wants and what Daniel thinks he needs, and they have to find a way to deal with it or give up on their relationship after a very happy year of being lovers ...more

This is a character driven story that has a smoothly flowing plot and characters who face so many obstacles thrown in their way by a military unable to let them love openly. The authors' concise style of writing provides a frank look into the world of the military and how some people are forced to live a lie as to who they love if they want to stay in the service. The authors demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of their subject and shows how one accident can alter lives in an instant. I really enj ...more

Interesting short story.

Both Daniel and Ryker love each other, and Ryker's even ready to sacrifice his Navy career for Daniel, but Daniel - despite loving Ryker too - is too afraid to come out to his family and of being an openly gay in military. But then an accident happens and Daniel's knee is injured and he'd have to be discharged anyway, so part of the problem's settled. Ryker stays in the Navy iinstead and he and Daniel move in together, Daniel comes out to his parents who take it surprisin

This is a re-release of an anthology story, but I’d not read it before. The blurb pretty much sets it up. The two men work at a naval hospital in Naples, Italy, with Ryker being Daniel’s superior. The rules say they should not even be friends, let alone lovers, but they have a pretty decent boss, and the two men are neighbors so no one finds it all that odd that they hang out. Soon both men have to make some career decisions. Stay in the navy

H.L. Holston is a teacher by day and a sometimes author by night. She dreams up ideas with her writing partners Sara York and Eleanor Bruce, but occasionally she ventures out on her own.

She admits she is a horrible blogger, even worse in keeping up on Facebook, and wishes she could retire to New Orleans and eat beignets every day at Café du Monde. Until then, she will tutor writing classes and wr
