Shawn Randall fled Los Angeles and a career providing protection for the rich and famous to start again in Phoenix. He’s seen it all and has one unbreakable rule; never get emotionally involved with a client. Learning that lesson almost cost him all he held dear. However, this assignment may deliver more than he bargained for. Protecting Morgan may be the easy part safe guarding his heart just may turn out to be the toughest assignment he’s ever had.
This book would have gotten four stars but there were so many typos that it drove me nuts. I wish that the editor would have done a better job because for me it took away from the enjoyment of the book because I was fixing so many things in my mind it was driving me crazy.
If I was rating just the story that was excellent. It was a fast read that only took me one day to get through. The pace was fast and it was easy to get through. If you want a fast read that has a good plot and some really good characters and if you can look past all the errors this is a great book to pick-up and read.
Someone to Watch Over Me starts with a bang, keeps building and never lets up. Melody has a stalker. So, she hires a security firm/bodyguard. Yes, the story has been written a thousand times, I'm sure. This one is the most realistic I've ever read or heard of.
It's frighteningly real because Melody is so average. She could be any woman. Shawn, her bodyguard, is, well, normal. Every character could be someone you or I know. Even the stalker is given a perspective. Love that the characters are given just enough depth as to make them relatable.
It makes the story that much scarier. The fast pace is excellent. The climax, even knowing it's coming, is startling. Love the little surprise the author kept until then. Will you figure it out? ;) The ending is awesome! I love the ending.
Someone to Watch Over Me is a fast-paced story of a busy girl, Morgan, who suddenly finds herself being stalked and in need of a bodyguard. Shawn is used to protecting the rich and famous, but has had enough of that life and starts up a security company in AZ with a buddy. Although he's used to providing security now, he's willing to do a favor for a friend.
Morgan is a girl with some backbone, even though she seems to panic occasionally. Who wouldn't, with a crazy guy threatening you?? I would personally want to hide out until the guy gets caught, but since she has taken over her family's jewelry business and is in the midst of putting on a fundraising show, she can't and won't do that. Shawn takes his job very seriously and because of the past, he tries so hard to resist his attraction to Morgan. He is an all-around good guy. I like their connection and how well they work together. The suspense was good, with some twists and turns. I would have liked to have a little background on how this guy came to know Morgan.
Now for one little tip: I know some people are sticklers on editing. I did come across some places where there were misspellings, no punctuation, and a little confusion on a guy's name--is it Frankie or Frank? But don't let that turn you off, because if you look past all that, it really is a good, suspenseful story.
Content: some language, some violence (nothing too graphic), some kissing.
**I won this on a goodreads giveaway and that in no way influenced my review.**
After her father’s heart attack, Morgan Kennedy has taken over management of the family’s jewelry store in Phoenix, Arizona. She is trying to get everything ready for the annual fundraiser that her family host’s in honor of her brother who died years ago.
It all starts when she starts to get hang up calls. Then her car is vandalized in the parking lot at work and some personal clothing items are stolen. She also receives a delivery of flowers at her home. Her friend calls in Shawn Randall owner of Sonoran Security to be her bodyguard. It becomes personal when Shawn starts receiving notes and other unwanted items on his car telling him to stay away from Morgan. It’s a race to find her stalker before the stalker does something to her.
This is a fast paced novel that you can’t put down. A real page turner that keeps you at the edge of your seat waiting for what’s going to happen next. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a book that grabs their attention from the first page.
This was a fun swift read which takes place Phoenix AZ. Morgan Kennedy is a jeweler whose in urge midst of putting together her family's annual fundraiser when she discovers to her horror she has a stalker. He's marked up her car sand stolen personal items. Morgan needs protection which she finds in the person of Shawn Randall! a bodyguard with Sonoran Security. Events ratchet up as the stalker gets closer and more personal. And so do Morgan and Shawn The night of the fundraiser all he'll breaks loose. Author Taylor handles the romance and the suspense with adept hand. A great beginning for this author! Check her out!
I really enjoyed this book. Shawn and Morgan were both interesting multi-dimensional characters. I really loved their flirty banter with each other.
The plot itself was also great and moved along at a quick pace so it was not dull and instead kept me on the edge of my seat to see what would happen without rushing through things.
This book is funny, captivating and the romance is sweet. I definitely recommend it!
Neither the story not the book title are something a reader hasn't seen before, but the author does a good job of bringing likeable characters to life. The book is just the right length for an enjoyable read. I would definitely read more from Taylor Michaels.
It does need some editing in the ebook version as words are omitted and once or twice the wrong name is used. However, it doesn't affect the story unless the reader has serious issues about editing.
Someone To Watch Over Me (Sonoran Security Agency Book 1) by Taylor Michaels
This was a new author to me and i was totally surprised and in love at how real her characters were . This was a fast paced book that didn't take a lot of time to read ( i finished it in one day as i couldn't put it down) and will have you turning pages to see what will happen next. A;though the characters are strong they are life like they could be a million people you know and see everyday. They will capture your interest as you see thing from all sides of the coin. This book starts off on a high and keeps you there as you find out all that happens with Morgan and Shawn. Will be looking for more of them in the future.
Author does great job in making reader realize how personal and invasive having a stalker can be. Hero is strong, silent, and tough hiding a tender heart. Heroine is smart and confident, albeit insecure about meeting dad’s expectations and rebounding from a broken heart. Quick, easy read with suspense intertwined.
Morgan has a huge problem, she's acquired a stalker. When the stalker steps up his game she's forced to hire a security firm to keep her and the family business safe. Sparks fly between Morgan and Shawn her bodyguard, but he doesn't want to mix business and pleasure. The author has really focused on the problem of stalkers in our everyday lives.
A stalker is every woman's nightmare but Morgan's bodyguard Shawn is her dream. Protection takes complete focus & Shawn works hard not to be distracted while attempting to trap a determined stalker. This book is well written & I loved the characters, plot & setting. Looking forward to more exciting stories by Taylor Michaels!
I loved the interaction between the characters from the first paragraph! I appreciate a strong and independent heroine with a supportive and heroic guy as a counterpart. This has all the elements... action, romance, from the heart storytelling and greatly written! Bravo to Taylor Michaels!
A decent introduction to a new series, a stalker pursuing Morgan on the eve of a big event for her family's jewelry store. A little lightweight in both suspense and romance, but still a good book.
From the beginning this book kept me riverted. I could not put it down, sometimes late getting back to work. Can't wait to start the next book in the series.
This was a good book. Others intrigue and mystery. The author did a really good job of keeping the identity of the stalker until the absolute last minute.
This book had an interesting if completely unnovel plot but i found everything about it's execution to be utterly boring. The characters are unremarkable, their pasts aren't really delved into, and other than the situation that throws them together their presents aren't really that intriguing either. There were like 2 kisses and not even steamy ones. I frankly didn't buy this as a romance. They spent 2 days together and other than a couple kisses there really didn't seem to be much going on between them (and even that could be chalked up to simple proximity). I like this plot type but this particular book didn't do it very well. It's a lot of buildup then the final showdown scene had me going "really i read this entire book...for that?" Actually you know it really isn't even that much buildup-the stalker does a couple of nutso things then disappears for most of the rest of the book until the "big" finale. We never find out what his deal is or why he was so interested in her. The writing was very stilted and awkward. It was written in 3rd person POV but it had perspective changes that were very sloppily done so as a result I frequently had no clue who's head we were in. I also thought it was odd that secondary characters were sometimes the narrator/perspective. Bottom line is i have no clue what this was. There was really no romance and not enough suspense/thrill/mystery to fill a thimble. There were tons of loose ends and nothing that made me care about any character or the outcome. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
This is a sweet book, with an implied "future relationship" at the end. Anyone with an appreciation for a relatively light suspense (the villain never quite seems evil, despite threats and actions) and equally gentle romance could enjoy this story. As a rule, I like my romance a little hotter, and my suspense a little darker, but this was a good read. While the characters were well-built, the surroundings, from rooms, to the landscape, was, for me, overlooked. But then, I like to totally bury myself in the book. I suppose that what modern characters live in can be assumed and the landscape in an area likewise understood to be some particular way. I think more discussion of where the villain was hiding would have made him more dangerous (and being me, I might have had him just barely escape a flash flood too!). Putting him in close proximity to his victim more often - perhaps more build-up of their "relationship".... But actually, it's okay. Because the book works. The plot is nicely developed, and as I said, the characters work. I am looking forward to further interaction between these "people" and me.
Morgan is a classy, sophisticated and down to earth woman who works for her families jewelry store. She is being stalked and Shawn at Sonoran Security steps up to protect her until the stalker is found. You feel like you are part of this well written story and connect with the characters so easily. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
"...before he could reply she spun and hurried catch up with Morgan." Notice a word missing in this sentence? That is what the entire book is like. Mistakes everywhere. I have read plenty of books with mistakes, but come on...some of these were just stupid, silly mistakes. Drove me nutso.
I did finish it...barely..but it was kind of a 'who done it' so I felt the need to finish.
Well, I stopped at 62%. This story had elements of romantic suspense that I liked but somehow it lacked . . . zizboombah. ;). It felt mechanical somehow. I had begun to scan-read it. Then decided to bag it all together. Plus, there were several references that made me think it was going to turn into a steamier book than I read.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed, the plot is smooth and the pace moves along well. It is very well-written and the story is engaging. There's plenty of suspense and action and it is clean, even though there are a few innuendos. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I recommend this book.
PG13 - Language (swears, coarse phrase, deity [omg]), Sex (descriptive kissing), Violence (creepy stalker). I was a bit disappointed in our h offering herself after knowing the H fewer than 24 hours. Didn't fit with the rest of her actions. Exciting story, loads of distracting typos. 3.5 stars
