Annie Hall: Screenplay, Woody Allen
Annie Hall is a 1977 American romantic comedy film directed by Woody Allen from a screenplay he co-wrote with Marshall Brickman. Produced by Allen's manager, Charles H. Joffe, the film stars the director as Alvy "Max" Singer, who tries to figure out the reasons for the failure of his relationship with the film's eponymous female lead, played by Diane Keaton in a role written specifically for her.
The comedian Alvy Singer is trying to understand why his relations

Largely considered Woody Allen’s greatest and best-loved film, Annie Hall was released in 1977 to wide critical and commercial success. The film, which Allen cowrote, directed, and starred in, tells the story of a failed romance within the frame of 1970s–era New York City—a romance based loosely on Allen’s real-life relationship with actress Diane Keaton, whose given name was Diane “Annie” Hall. Annie Hall won four Academy Awards, including Best Pi

I am a huge fan of Woody Allen and “Annie Hall” is my favourite rom-com movie ever (probably ex-aequo with Todd Solondz' "Happiness").
The script is brilliant because it embraces Allen's central themes: New York; Fear of death; Existentialism; Trust; Love and Pessimism..

Actually it is more than a comic flick about a quirky romantic relationship. Even if it was considered to be the greatest comedy film of all time (https://www.theguardian.com/film/2010...), the film was actually subtitled as "a

El libro se resume en:

“It reminds me of that old joke- you know, a guy walks into a psychiatrist's office and says, hey doc, my brother's crazy! He thinks he's a chicken. Then the doc says, why don't you turn him in? Then the guy says, I would but I need the eggs. I guess that's how I feel about relationships. They're totally crazy, irrational, and absurd, but we keep going through it because we need the eggs.”

I feel like I can pretty sensibly make the claim that Annie Hall is the greatest screenplay written in English, in the 20th century, that didn't involve Preston Sturges or Billy Wilder. In other words, I really love this screenplay. That the movie's even better is kind of astonishing. Almost nothing makes me laugh as much as this does, and few pieces of writing are more perfectly and simply poignant. I guess this is just a lot of seemingly hyperbolic praise, but I struggle to write well about my ...more

One can learn a thing or two from Woody Allen.
All the accolades and praise encouraged me to pick up this script. I was hoping to get some valuable insights or life changing epiphanies during the couple of hours of reading.
I enjoyed the beginning and ending, but I often got frustrated the rest of the time. There were too many things going on for me and too much of him...
I sympathize more with laconic and restful authors

It was fine, but didn't live up to the hype, although that may be the hype's fault more than the script's.

Annie Hall is a cinematic masterpiece. Watching the film is a stunning experience. Woody Allen and Diane Keaton’s alluring chemistry explain why they collaborated in 8 films together. However, when attending a feature, the viewer tends to miss slight details that really add to the story. There’s something beautiful about reading Woody’s work. Every scene’s conversation is really natural, nothing feels forced. Woody’s own talking habits are present throughout, adding small details in speech like ...more

This is my first incursion into reading scripts or movie adaptations, and though I am not always satisfied with the films of Woody Allen, Annie Hall is one of my favorites from this director.

The story revolves around a couple... Alvy Singer and Annie Hall, which is far from the typical romantic comedy couple, they focus more on the conflicts and differences that occur with each other than in the romantic moments.

The narrative takes us between the ruptures and reconciliations, analyzing how the c

You have to give it to him really...Woody Allen is a marvellous writer, especially since he can take the most annoying and difficult of characters and turn them into a sense of revelation. Alvy...to say the least, is a downer. But he wants love and he's found it in the form of Annie Hall. They date, they love and then...well...they stop. And Alvy is trying to find out why?

As an amateur screenplay writer, Allen really is up there with creating scripts that really come alive. And I'm amazed at ho

I am a lot naive when it comes to the legacy and oeuvre of Woody Allen , having seen only 1 movie of his , Vicky Christina Barcelona, but had definitely heard a lot about Annie Hall , as one of the definitive films of that era. Reading the script justifies it so. The wit, bitter-sweet romance, and wry, nonchalant humor just made reading the script feel like gliding through it. It was a delicious and crunchy treat for its realistic take on modern-day relationships and of course, the adorable neuro ...more

The script in itself is a masterpeice, as is the film. The problem here is that all the prose describing the action was not written by Allen or Brickman, rather it was added by the publisher. So all this book really gives you is the dialogue, offering nothing behind what we can see on screen. This essentially defeats the purpose of reading a screenplay, and while even reading the dialogue is enjoyable - watching the film is a thousand times better.

Why is it so good?

Is it just that no moment is dull? Is it that every moment is either hysterically funny or sad? Is it that the story so encapsulates important ideas?
