Warm, slow, modern-day folk tales that are rich with culture and quite relatable, regardless your heritage.

This story was very good. The writer's voice was heard loud and clear with a wonderful hint of El Paso. The struggle to achieve the American Dream comes with heart ache, not understanding, making do and still a need and desire to have more. The voice is flowing with a primitiveness and yet very much full of emotion that we all can relate to.
I received this book via good reads and enjoyed the reading and am happy to add it to my library and share among others.

I was delighted to receive this book from Goodreads Giveaway!

The author, Matt Mendez, has developed characters and settings with a collection of interesting stories in revealing the human conditions that emerge out of the gritty and working-class barrios of El Paso, bring the reader deep into their world.

I would recommend this book.

Beautiful work. An instant favorite. It stands alone, like the last saguaro in the world or an ángel sucio.
