What a Texas Girl Wants

Rate this book
Kathleen Witte is a down-to-earth girl. She has to be, with the family ranch on the verge of success. After seven months of keeping it all together by swearing off men, however, Kathleen needs a bit of fun in the sun. Waking up with a husband she can't remember isn't how she planned to blow off steam.

The last thing Jackson Taylor wants in his life is a down-to-earth girl. He has four weeks of freedom in which to find his birth mother. He's done well avoiding commitment until now, so when he wakes up on a Mexican beach with Kathleen his first reaction is curiosity. When he spies the matching wedding rings on their left hands curiosity turns to concern.

Neither Jackson nor Kathleen want to stay married, but when her family shows up, they have no choice. Once back in Texas, however, can they keep this all-business marriage from turning into an all-consuming love?

Once upon a time, Kristina Knight spent her days running from car crash to fire to meetings with local police--no, she wasn't a troublemaker, she was a journalist. Her career took her all over the United States, writing about everything from a serial killer's capture to the National Finals Rodeo. Along the way she found her very own Knight in Shining Cowboy Boots and an abiding love for romance novels. Kristina writes contemporary romance with a smattering of sass, sex and (of course) drama, and she loves hearing from readers. And just like the characters from her favorite books, she's living her own happily ever after.

So what does a Texas girl want really? "Sexy man by the pool." Lots of hot sex with said sexy man by the pool! Well, don't we all!! Seriously now, Kathleen Witte wanted love, a man by her side, honesty and a forever. Add in a ranch, horses, sexy boots and family. What she got was Jackson Taylor. Hot, yes but so non-committed to anyone. Kristina Knight would have you laughing out loud from Chapter 1. I was hooked from when Jackson and Kathleen woke up naked on a Mexican beach. A fast and witty read balanced with the right amount of humour, sensuality and family drama. I can't wait to read her other book offerings in the future.

I had the chance to read an anticipated review copy of What a Texas Girl Wants, and If you have ever had a crush on a real cowboy, this book is for you, but beware Jackson Taylor is not your cliché cowboy. He might not sport cowboy hat and boots, but he’s a strong and caring man who knows how to love and protect his woman—even if he hasn’t himself realized that yet. Kathleen and Jackson find themselves in a romantic trap, but Kristina Knight’s sexy and sassy storytelling will guide them through it all and leave us wanting more.

I've had the good luck to read this from an advanced reader's copy and loved it. It's a fast ride across the Texas landscape following Jackson Taylor and Kathleen White as they try to bluff their way out of what happened one evening in Mexico. What happens there doesn't stay there for this couple. Turns out, that's a good thing. Like every good romance, there's a happily ever after but it takes a few twists and turns to get there. Fun ones, in this case.

Waking up on a romantic beach in the arms of a handsome man doesn’t sound like a problem, but for Texas rancher Kathleen Witte, it’s not one problem, but many.
Not only does she not remember what led her to be naked on a Mexican beach with a man, but Jackson Taylor, a man she had a crush on in college. But they aren’t just naked, they’re naked and married with no recollection of how it happened. But that’s only one of the problems she’s going to have to deal with.
This is the beginning of What a Texas Girl Wants by Kristina Knight, a novel about how bad decisions can lead to true love.
Both of the main characters have sworn off love for their own reasons, but can’t resist the animal attraction that drew them into each other’s arms. Armed with the best intentions they continue the sham marriage planning to end the relationship after one month.
Kristina Knight has created a story full of wonderful characters with real insecurities and doubts and allowed them to grow and find each other and love in the ranch country of South Texas. It’s a fast-paced fun story well-worth reading.

The Dallas of West Texas!

‘Naked Man by the pool. Naked man by the pool. Grandfather at the door.” That phrase from What a Texas Girl Wants had me chuckling all weekend as I pictured the opening scene. How do you get from ‘boozapalooza’ and ‘naked man on the porch’ to a very happy ending? Kristina Knight does it with humor, passion, and lots of Texas gumption. The backdrop of a horse ranch in the beautiful Texas Hill Country is the perfect setting for her strong, determined, and very family-oriented heroine, Kathleen. And who’s the naked man? None other than celebrity photographer and total hunk Jackson Taylor (who is sure he doesn’t need a family at all).

Kristina Knight takes the opulence and close-knit family dynamics of the Dallas Ewings and moves it to West Texas. Expect drama, secrets, and above all passion!

What A Texas Girl Wants has my kind of heroine, Kathleen Witte. A dedicated horsewoman who saves rescue horses, along with training racehorses, she takes a few days off to relax...and wakes up on a Mexican beach with college crush, Jackson Taylor. To her immense surprise, they are married! What's a Texas girl to do? Take the new hubby home to meet the family, of course! What A Texas Girl Wants is a super story that will leave any lover of romance more than satisfied and looking for the next story from debut author Kristina Knight.

Wow, I was hooked from page one, and it only got better from there. What a Texas Girl Wants has a great premise. At several points, I alternately laughed out loud and cringed. Kathleen and Jackson were both so real, I couldn’t help but root for them and hope for their happily ever after. I can’t wait for the next installment from author Kristina Knight.

Kristina Knight is an author you won't want to miss and will find it hard to wait until her next book comes out. In 'What a Texas Girl Wants', Jackson and Kathleen are just as surprised about their marriage in Puerto Vallarta as everyone else. Between their surprise marriage, her father's secret, a matchmaking grandfather who knows everything, the rest of their clan and the townspeople you will find love, chemistry, chivalry, humor and a happily ever after. I'm hoping Monica has a story of her own.

Kristina made me want more and I did not want it to end.

What Happens in Mexico, doesn’t always stay in Mexico sometimes it follows you back to Texas and turns your life over.

Kathleen Witte decides to take a long over due vacation to Mexico to unwind and relax, next thing she is waking up buck naked on a beach after a night of debauchery married to her college crush Jackson Taylor. 'What's a Texas Girl to do'? Well.. hold on to him and take him home to meet the family...

Jackson has always been a loner, he doesn’t do family or relationships, for Kathleen it’s all about family, she has been the glue holding her family together; their journey to HEA is anything but easy.

I liked how Jackson and Kathleen characters developed within the book, their struggles and insecurities felt real and the Witte family drama was woven in nicely through the book

‘What a Texas Girl Wants’ was a fun read. Kristina Knight did a fabulous job with this story, it had the right amount of Sexy & emotional to keep me engaged to the end.

It's not a new plot -- nor a significant twist to an old one. But if you need a light and easy read, this might be just what you're looking for.

Waking up on a beach in Mexico naked is a bit of a shock all on its own. But when you add in a gorgeous naked male specimen and a little band of gold on your left hand with no knowledge of how it got there, you have the makings of a cute and fun-to-read romance.

Jackson Taylor and Kathleen Witte were not strangers to each other. It’s been years since they’ve seen one another but it doesn’t take much to spark the flames once again . . . especially when a night of drinking is involved. But now it's time to face facts and move on with life -- and, as you might expect, there are some doozies to overcome.

Fun little Texas romp! Cute and witty dialogue surrounding a dysfunctional family situations. Nothing new or too deep or devastating. Standalone with a guaranteed happily-ever-after!

What happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico. Unless, of course, you wake up married to your college crush and find your lifelong dream in jeopardy. Author Kristina Knight obviously knows that “what a Texas girl wants” is what every girl wants – hot, steamy passion with a broody Texas boy. And, of course, true love. I got swept up and was rooting for Kathleen and Jackson right from the beginning as they keep their ruse alive and found themselves more and more drawn to each other. What a Texas Girl Wants is a perfect blend of witty family drama and steamy romance – and left this girl wanting more!

I really enjoyed the chemistry between Jackson and Kathleen right from the very first scene of her waking up hung over and married in Mexico! I like that both characters had their own unique flaws and problems in life and yet they still came together in the middle, helping each other to be more than they were separately. The family dynamic on the ranch was interesting and fun to read too. I hope Ms. Knight gives us another book about this family!

This was a fun read that hooks you from the first page. Kathleen is a woman that knows what she wants and decides to let off a little steam on the beach before taking over the reins of her family's Texas Ranch. She wakes up on a beach naked with her arms around a man -- equally naked. And neither remember that they got married. It gets rather funny here as they try to sort it out and fix it. The last thing she wants is for her family to think her unstable and unable to run the ranch. The last thing he wants is a long term relationship.

The character development of Kathleen and Jackson is wonderful. Jackson is a loner, not interested in commitment(or at least he keeps telling himself so). His childhood scarred him in that respect. Kathleen has a family full of eccentricities and drama. They stay married for a short while in order to please her family and help her get control of the ranch she loves so much.

The relationship develops despite Jackson's resistance. Certainly a well-written and enjoyable read that makes you smile...pretty hot too.

A three day drunkfest ... a steamy beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ... waking up naked and married on the beach ... is this really What A Texas Girl Wants?

Kathleen Witte is a twenty-seven year old manager of her family's ranch in Lockhart, Texas. After spending the last seven months of dedicating herself to overseeing the entire operation of the Double Diamond ranch in order to show her grandfather that she is committed to carrying on the family tradition, she is ready for a quick fling vacation in Mexico to blow off steam and to become a new and improved independent woman.

Jackson Taylor is a thirty year old photographer originally from Texas, now living in New York. Jackson is haunted by his past: he is the bastard son of a wealthy Texas family, raised by his mother until he was seven, he was cut off from the family money by his rich step-mother after his father died. Obsessed with his past, he is searching for his birth mother so he could get the answers he needs in order to put the past away. He was in Mexico on business doing a photo shoot for a sports magazine.

Waking up naked and hungover on the beach thinking that each other was a stranger who they had a one-night stand with, only to realize that they are not strangers at all, but two people who had an unrequited college crush on each other, and now each has a shiny gold wedding band on their finger and no recollection of how they got married! And if that wasn't enough, Kathleen's grandfather arrives at the villa she rented in search of her since she didn't return home to Texas the day before. Caught in a sticky situation, Kathleen and Jackson agree to pretend that they are married for a month until she turns twenty-eight and can prove to her grandfather that she is fit to take the reigns of the family business, then they can go their separate ways. Can their so called "marriage" arrangement succeed, can it turn into a real marriage, or will the truth of their arrangement be revealed?

What A Texas Girl Wants is an entertaining romance novel that has everything a reader could ask for: romance, steamy passion and family drama. Written in a sassy fashion, the author grabs the reader's attention in the opening paragraph and doesn't let go until the last words are read. Told in the third person narrative, the story is set in the beautiful West Texas Hill Country where cowboys, cowgirls, and horses are the backdrop for a passionate love story. The storyline is intriguing, the reader is drawn into Kathleen and Jackson's story as they embark on a journey to discover what really matters the most to them. Filled with enough drama, suspense and passion, this is one romance story that will keep your interest as Kathleen and Jackson's love story unfolds.

The characters are realistic and down-to-earth people that have insecurities and issues that are believable and easy to relate to. Kathleen and Jackson are strong, complex individuals whose sizzling interactions with each other creates a powerful story that the reader can embrace. I absolutely enjoyed both of these characters, I couldn't help but cheer for them as they overcome their struggles and become more drawn to each other.

What A Texas Girl Wants is a lighthearted and passionate love story that will carry you away to rich West Texas countryside. Romance fans, if you want a fast-paced story that has a mixture of steamy passion, family drama and suspense, then this is the book for you!

After indulging in rum, vodka and tequila, two college friends wake up on a Mexican beach with more than a hangover. In Kristina Knight's What a Texas Girl Wants, Kathleen Witte and Jackson Taylor are less than thrilled to find themselves hitched at the end of a multi-day bender.

Kathleen considers marriage an irresponsible act that may cost her inheritance: her family's horse ranch near San Antonio. Not to mention, she is embarrassed to find herself attached to the man she foolishly crushed on her freshman year of college. Jackson has no plans to tie himself down to Kathleen or anyone, instead planning to live the single life.

For their own reasons, Kathleen and Jackson decide to keep up the pretenses of their marriage for a few weeks, until each can take care of personal business, which a quickie divorce might disrupt.

While pretending to be a happily settled couple in their honeymoon period, Kathleen and Jackson each find themselves feeling more than either intended.

I'm a sucker for romance novels, especially one where long-time acquaintances unexpectedly find themselves together -- especially in a legally binding sense. What a Texas Girl Wants delivers on what it promises as a quick and entertaining category romance. A fun story idea, it was a quick read, though a little predictable.

A little heavy on background too soon in the story, I would have liked to see the circumstances of Kathleen and Jackson's respective histories -- both together and on their own -- revealed later in the story at a slower pace. The natural obstacles between the characters was believable, especially with the supporting characters in place to add tension.

I did find myself questioning how Kathleen and Jackson's relationship progressed once they reconnected in Mexico. Chalked up to forgotten memories courtesy of too much alcohol, most of their memories from their first few days together are hazy or plain lost. Both had latent feelings remaining from their college days, but what was it that happened during their reunion in Mexico that led them to jumping into bed, and ultimately, marriage with each other? I don't need to know every detail, but a little more development here would have been nice.

As far as characters go, Kathleen and Jackson were likeable, which made rooting for them easy to do.

Always a fan of a good cowboy and cowgirl story set in the Texas hills, I enjoyed the hours spent reading What a Texas Girl Wants and would check out another Knight novel in the future.

When a sweet southern lady (with a side of spice on the side) decides to get away from the stresses of her family and the hard work she’s put in to prove to her grandfather that she can take care of her family’s ranch, Kathleen indulges in too much alcohol. She wakes up on the beach and realizes that she’s been snuggled up to a man from her past named Jackson. Kathleen is shocked, but what’s even more shocking is when they come to the realization that they’re married — to each other! Jackson doesn’t want to be tied down to any woman, not even Kathleen. His main focus was to find his birth mother, not to be confined to the ring on his hand. Without any real time to talk and go their separate ways, Kathleen’s family surprises her on what was supposed to be her time away. The only thing they can do is pretend to be married, no matter how hard (or easy) it might be. Will Jackson go along with Kathleen’s plan to earn her right the ranch, or will their secret be found out?

From the beginning, “What a Texas Girl Wants” had me hooked! I loved how the story started out — hot! (What’s not to love waking up on a beach, next to a sexy man?) The characters were very vocal, especially Kathleen. I liked that about her because she was confident in how she felt and what she believed, (I love strong heroines!). I thought that Jackson was a little wimpy when it came to wanting to find his biological mother, but I understood it why. His relationship between him and Kathleen’s father and grandfather was nice a nice touch — you could really “see” how they felt about Jackson. This read was definitely filled with sexual tensions. When they finally succumbed to their desires that allowed the reader to be in the moment with them, I was relived. I was cheering for them the entire time, and was nervous to see if they would ever be together.

Kristina Knight has written a truly wonderful book! Being from Texas and having a ranch here, I could relate to Kathleen. It was truly a pleasure to read! If you’re looking for a hot summer read or want to curl up on the couch with a steamy book, I recommend “What a Texas Girl Wants!”

I give this book 4 stars!

Kristina Knight is currently on tour with CLP Blog Tours and What a Texas Girl Wants. I found this to be a short and sweet romance novel, filled with dramatic decisions and suspenseful moments. Kathleen and Jackson are recently married – yet neither of them can remember the night of their wedding. While the two were in Mexico for different reasons- Kathleen to clear her head, Jackson for work - the two past classmates run into each other, and a drunken night leads to their nuptials. The two come from very different backgrounds – Kathleen’s family runs a prominent ranch in Texas and comes from a line of wealth and power, while Jackson was abandoned by his birth mother and grew up much poorer. But when the two decide to stay married for the sake of Kathleen’s family – she can’t afford to put her grandfather through the distress such as a quickie wedding and quicker divorce when she is supposed to be proving she can be the lady in charge of their family business. Jackson goes along with the plan reluctantly as first – but it doesn’t take him long to realize he loves Kathleen. Kathleen loves Jackson back – but are the both too stubborn to tell the other?

I liked the fast pace of this novel, and it was a very quick read. While I thought there was enough back story on Kathleen and Jackson and how they knew each other, I would have appreciated just a bit more insight on their time together in Mexico. How did they find each other? Who made the first move? I know that neither character could remember this due to the drinking, but as a reader I would have appreciated that info. I loved the plot overall, and waiting to see who would come to their senses first and admit their feelings. The other plot points such as the ranch business, Jackson searching for his birth mother, and Kathleen’s sister and her divorce kept my interest as well. One thing that I didn’t quite understand was Kathleen’s father and his drinking habits. I felt like I had missed something to why he lead his family to believe he was an alcoholic. But overall, a fun story that I would recommend, especially if you enjoy romance.

Kathleen wakes up on the beach with a very attractive man close by. As she tries to figure out exactly what happened, the sexy man stirs awake and they both quickly realize there is more going on than meets the eye. Like the fact that they are married. To each other. When her family is thrown into the mix, they decide to keep the ruse and act like they intended to get married the whole time. While Kathleen and Jackson struggle to keep their relationship strictly business to keep their ruse up until they can part ways, feelings and emotions become a factor and essentially bring them closer. But is it something either of them want or need?

The beginning of the book kind of made me laugh. I mean who ends up in situations like that? I felt for them that they couldn’t remember what exactly happened the previously. For some reason or another, I was annoyed that Kathleen had to hide the fact that she was married. I completely get why she did it but she is an adult and should be able to tell her father what had happened without him judging too much. It’s not like she is a wild child or anything. If you ignore that, she was a strong woman that I could easily relate to. I admired that she felt concern for Jackson and what he was trying to get accomplished.

And Jackson. All the poor guy wanted was to find his birth mother but ended up married. I am pretty sure that is any man’s nightmare right there. He did realize that if he wanted to help Kathleen with the ranch, they need to stay married. That shows he has a good heart. He confirms it throughout the book constantly. Every man should be more like Jackson.

All in all, it was an enjoyable, quick read. I can say that I will most likely pick up another of Kristina’s books in the future.

Time is the silent, brooding presence in What a Texas Girl Wants. It weighs on Jackson with his painful past and now his guarded and insecure future.

For Kathleen, time means family, enduring stability, and a girl's romantic crush never expressed. It also means blatant manipulation by her grandfather and a closing window of opportunity if she's going to fulfill her dreams and take over the family ranch.

It's a three day romantic interlude, a hazy wedding on a Mexican beach, and secrets kept to protect Kathleen just long enough to ensure that her inheritance is secure.

Time is what it takes to wash away their pain and insecurities so they can finally admit that what they really want is what they found waking up together on the sand with the surf rolling over their legs like a warm blanket.

I enjoyed this lovely story.

The Hook: Kathleen, a ranch girl with a heart the size of Texas, wakes up to the ultimate "morning after" and finds herself naked, on a Mexican beach, and married to her long-lost college crush.

Love It: The hero Jackson is a sexy blend of Texas cowboy and brooding New York-city artist.

Leave It: Would have loved to see more of Jackson and Kathleen when they knew each other in college.

Read It If: You like romances that are grounded in family dynamics. "What a Texas Girl Wants" weaves in secondary characters to enrich the main story rather than distracting from it.

Skip It If: You're allergic to horses.

What a Texas Girl Wants was a great read from start to finish. Kathleen Witte is a wonderful heroine with such depth and determination. Jackson Taylor is lust personified. The two of them together make the perfect storm.
Ms. Knight wove a tapestry filled with rich well written characters and a plot that simply made you want to know what happened next.

Ms. Knight’s book What a Texas Girl wants was one of my first purchases from the Crimson Romance Line. It was a purchase well made. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Knight’s work.

This book captured my interest from the beginning! I would recommend it to my friends that don't like to read because many books drag in the beginning.

If you enjoy the country, you will enjoy reading about Kathleen's love affair. This is a story that could have actually happened. It's awesome when the story comes alive because it's something everyone can relate too!
