Together with her friend Ellie, Scarlett embarks on a wild scavenger hunt trying to follow the strange clues her father left her and discovering that what she thinks she k ...more

Dear Scarlett by Fleur Hitchcock - this is part of Hong Kong Battle of the Books so I wanted to set aside time to read it asap. Happy to encounter the mystery. Appreciate the formatting and also title headings. Funny how much I fall for names on the titles. Enjoyed this book but I did have a deja vu moment at the beginning of reading the book… reminded me so much of Jeremy Fink and The Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass: Just before his thirteenth birthday, Jeremy Fink receives a keyless locked box–s ...more

A great bit of writing for children.
Scarlett's dad was a thief. He died years ago but as she turns 11, a package for her is delivered. With picklocks, photos and a copy of Gone with the Wind inside.
There is the not-unusual 'child detective' storyline here as Scarlett and her 'friend' Ellie (who she begrudgingly let's join in) search for her dad's inheritance.
There is also the touching storyline of Scarlett trying to live up to her father's ideal, with some hilarious consequences (the penguin epi

This book talks about a normal child's life and all the problems, ups and downs that she faces. I found this book pretty common and the story line wasn't all that special. I think this book would be good for fun reading to relief stress and just enjoy ourselves for just a moment of two.If you are a child 6-9 years old, this would be a good book for you, but if you exceed that age group, i suggest you do not read this book or it will probably be too boring and simple for you and you would probabl ...more

Enjoyed reading this one to my daughter, although it did make her wail "why doesn't she just TELL someone?" on several occasions. Good question, to which the only answer is "because it wouldn't be much of a story otherwise". But I'm highly intolerant of comedies of errors, and it didn't wind me up too much. Funny in places, touching in others.

Great mystery from the first to the last page, with a very likeable cast of characters, at the forefront young Scarlett who receives an unexpected gift from a father she hardly knew.

Somehow attractive but the beginning doesn't tell you to continue, only the last few chapter gives you the desire to read.

this book was really good but after a while it started to become boring because the author gave away what was going to happen further in the book.

Phew - well done girls!

A great children's book with a plot to get your teeth into although I wonder if children would get bored waiting for the climax.
