Received as a free giveaway.
Written for younger readers, this story is a light read relating events of past and present in Spirits Bay, through the eyes of a young boy. There is sufficient interest and intrigue to keep your attention and the story gives a small insight into Mauri legends. It is well written and captures the imagination.

The characters are well written and the landscape is described so well i could picture it in my mind without it becoming boring. Surprisingly i felt that i learned a lot about new zealand and the Maori culture as well.
The supernatural aspects of the book are very subtle and only really show through in the last chapter or two
