It's an interesting style. Alicorn is much more interested in exploring her world(s) than in building conflicts and finding resolutions. The effect is that the book isn't filled with social dramas any more dramatic than what you experience day-to-day (with a few small exceptions, which are hardly epic in proportion). Never-the-less the characters are intelligent and increasingly well-wrought.
