Maine native Hilary Nangle offers her unique perspective on this stretch of New England coastline, from the gourmet restaurants of Portland to the idyllic island community of Monhegan.

Nangle suggests itineraries for great trips, such as Icons of the Maine Coast and Lighthouses, Lobster, and L.L. Bean.

The book has detailed information on finding deals at outlet stores and eating in the open-air lobster wharves of Penobscot Bay.

I will use it on our trip to the coast in the summer. It has a good section on Maine’s Acadia National Park.

Also, I like how it includes smaller towns and villages that are not as well-known. It lists many parks and trails to stop at along the way.

Along with plenty of information on the many islands and more importantly on how to get them by ferry or some only by walking at low tides or your own boat.

It has many details to help you explore this scenic area.

This was the first Moon Guide I have looked at and enjoyed it very much. There is lots of detailed suggestions for a wide range of activities, dining and shopping experiences. I also liked the fact that the title only focused on the coast and not the entire state. Will definitely be looking at more Moom Guides.

The details of Maine and how to enjoy it to the fullest

More insight, opinions, facts, maps, recommendations on the place and people called Maine/Mainers than can be assimilated in one reading or one visit. The culture, spirit, and essence of Maine comes through and enervates one’s desire to return again in person as well as the readings.

Great relatively current mentions of local places to eat and hike...gorgeous pics of Maine coast. In Biddeford, add Dizzy Birds, a place to eat in or take out. You order meals at the counter Chicken, Beef, Lamb, with 2 sides...yummy, comfort, contemporary, healthyish choices!

All of the Moon travel guides are designed in an easy to read format with information available for any type of traveler. While this book concentrates on Coastal Maine it divides the region into sections helping tourists plan what and where they want too see.

This book does a good job with hotel and restaurant recommendations but I don't feel like I have a great idea about what to do anywhere, especially in Acadia. I know there's a separate book for the national park, but only 8 pages in this one, most of it just about the Loop Road and the Jordan Pond House, makes it not worth the money. I know I can use Tripadvisor to figure out what I want to do, but I like my travel books. I want all the details at my fingertips. I don't know if there are better books about coastal Maine, but there are definitely travel books with better layouts that I've used religiously for other parts of the world.

I didn't care for the layout. Made it hard to plan a trip down the coast & know what to see. I wish there was a lighthouse driving tour included.
