This book was a bit weird to read because it oscilatted between 4 and 2 stars.
There is 2 love stories. The main one between Dune and Sophie and the secondary one between Mac and Jenna.
We met all the characters in the previous book (No tan lines). Dune and Mac are back to Barefoot Williams for a month vacation, they are best friends and Professional beach volley partners.
Sophie is a book worm, tremendously shy and with lots of phobia. One of those being she’s afraid of water. She also doesn’t stand sun so well, so each time she dares to go on the beach she is wearing hat, windbreaker and rubber boots. But this summer she decided it was high time to take some risks and emancipate herself from all her fears. She also has a crush for Dune since she was a kid.
Dune is attracted to Sophie and find her absolutely cute, but aware of her shyness he’s hiding his feeling for her. Because of that the romance is quiet slow to kick.
Mac and Jenna has a totally opposite relationship. She is as straight forward and sharp tongued as Sophie is shy and sweet, and externally she and Mac can’t stand each other.
My favorite character in the book is definitely Mac. He was part of most of the 4 stars moments of the book with or without Jenna. This man produces witty comebacks as naturally as he breaths.
The story was sweet but sometimes too sweet for me, thus the 2 stars moments. Another thing that also dragged the story in my opinion is all the "historical" moments.

April 10, 2013DNF at pg 200 - I hate not finishing a book, but I just can't get into this one. There's something odd about the writing style that I'm not connecting with. I can't put my finger on it, saying it's too literal might be the best way, but whatever it is, how it reads, from dialogue to just descriptions, isn't working for me.
Also, by page 200 I need to care about the characters and I don't. The heroine is cute enough but I'm not clicking fully with her, the hero or the secondary storyline characters.

Follow the (Volley) Ball
A split-in-two town with feuding families needs a Romeo and Juliet to settle the differences. This is an easy couple to root for, and, for once I was glad that while the sex wasn’t super-explicit, it fit in with the tone of the book. Also, I’d even visit Florida if I could tour that town. 😊

This is the 2nd in the series set in Barefoot William Beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Sophie Saunders is clumsy, cure, sweet, fearful, timid, a bookworm. She is also a Saunders of the founding family of wealthy rival neighbor Saunders Shores. She has long held pro beach volleyball star Dune Cates of Barefoot William close to her heart. This is their delightful romance that kicked off in the 1st in series, No Tan Lines, as well as Sophie's summer of adventure as she searches for her niche and overcomes her fears. A secondary romance has Dune's volleyball partner and ladies and Mac falling for Dune's smart-mouthed but vulnerable cousin Jen. There are significant developments in the Cates/Saunders 100 year feud too.
I won't wait long to read #3 in series.

I love when I find new authors along with new series and Angell and her Barefoot William Beach #2 did not disappoint. The Cates family were an easy bunch to get to know even though there were so many of them; the Saunders not so much. Talk about being born on the wrong side of Center Street vs. with a silver spoon in your mouth.
This was mainly the story of the Cates family and how Sophie Saunders connected with all of them. Throughout I loved the give and take between the different family members and friends. I loved the camaraderie, the friendships, the thrill of the chase and the romance, the caring and thoughtfulness shown to others in the family as well as to outsiders being brought into their circle. There was laughter, some tears, happiness and sorrow, fear, acceptance, lots and lots of hot and steamy romance, love and several happily ever afters. Some HEA’s were hoped for and several were very unexpected. I particularly found it heartwarming when Sophie’s mother had an actual conversation with her – not just telling her what she should or shouldn’t do – and they seemed to connect. Watching how shy Sophie could draw anyone in and make them comfortable was a rare treat. She was always so caring – seeing all that went on around her and helping those that needed help without drawing attention to herself or taking credit. Watching first the chemistry and then the love grow between Sophie and Dune as well as Mac and Jenna kept me turning the pages far into the night. There was nice closure tying up all the loose ends.
All in all a wonderful introduction to a new author with her books getting added to my always growing TBR pile. I look forward to reading book one in the series and hope there will be others that follow! A great summer read since the story takes place in Florida on the water, the beach and the boardwalk in the fictitious town of Barefoot William! You’ll have to read it to see why the town has such an interesting name!

October 22, 2013There were too many short sentences. The book relied heavily on five to eight word sentences. They made the story sound choppy. The characters had no complex thoughts. The dialogue sounded like they communicated in staccato. They could have narrated through telegram. I read a chapter or two. That's the limit on my tolerance. I'm DNF-ing this book. I have better things to read.

I know, I know, I know. I know not to expect too much of this type of novel but the main female character in this book just drove me insane. I know the point of it was to show how she overcomes her fears but she was just so damned scared of everything. Totally unbelievable character.

Sophie Saunders has had a crush on Dune Cates ever since she was 7. She had fallen and he helped her up when no one else would. She was the nerd, he was the older guy with a motorcycle. Now, she's going to be 25-and still after all this time she still has a thing for him. The problem is he's now a professional volleyball star and constantly surrounded by beautiful women throwing themselves at him. Scantily clad girls with tan bodies. Sophie on the other hand is clumsy, petite, and still trying to find her place in the world. She also is afraid of getting burnt in the sun, so she covers up from head to toe on the beach-there's no way Dune will ever be interested in her.
But. Dune notices. Alot. Sophie has decided this summer is the one she will get out of her shell and try new things. Dune is back for a month with his best friend Mac and he has an immediate urge to protect her. For a no strings guy, these feelings are new but they spend more and more time together. Eventually love begins to bloom.
The secondary story to Dune and Sophie's is his friend Mac's. When he meets Dune's cousin, Jenna, he does a 180 on his life. Mac has never had to work for a woman before, and she's sassy and mean. He can't figure out for the life of him why he likes her! Good story too!

A perfect beach read. It had all the elements of a steamy funny beach read.
Sophie is a complete klutz. She falls over herself, spills things and is covered in clothes from head to toe when she lives on the beachfront. She is awkward in and out of her skin. And she decides that this summer is the summer of adventure. She is a trust fund baby wanting to find her niche. Dune is polar opposite. He is a tanned, popular, handsome, professional volleyball player. He can get any girl he wants but when he one day sees Sophie running from the water in her rain boots, he’s curious. Through random encounters at first, he sees her in a different light and then he actively pursues her bc she is so different from he is usually attracted too; however, Sophie is something else underneath all those clothes. The heat between them sparks and then explodes. He helps her conquer her fears and he sees himself longing for stability.
His partner Mac also has a storyline in this book. He is a player and a douche. Sex is the only thing on his mind, well besides volleyball and food. He meets his match in Jenna, Dunes’s cousin. She has gotten under his skin and he ends up doing things he wouldn’t normally do like take her on dates and show he cares. They also have a passionate love story as well.
Typical fun beach or poolside read.

A definite lighthearted, easy read. I'm somewhat particular to this book since I own it 😅. And I somewhat connect to the character of Sophie, being that she's an introvert and a bookworm. I just needed something easy to read to start my reading year, and this book gave me just that.
It's not the best, writing wise - it's more telling than showing, the plot is heavily predictable, and nothing really serious ever happens. There's a lightness to the tone of the story and it permeates all throughout; even with the "bad blood"/"division" of the Cates and the Saunders, there's only a sense of dislike between the two families.
Then, there's the characters. Or more so, for me, there's Sophie. I get that Sophie is young at 25 years old and that she's a bit sheltered in her cushy lifestyle, and for this book she's going for her summer of adventure and trying new things expanding her horizon.... But she's 25, and sometimes the way she's written makes it seem like she's a teenager, or worse, a child. Literally, the few first things Dune, her love interest, does to her is ruffle her hair. Hand on top of her head ruffle. Really?
If I hadn't read this before and already knew the story, reading it now I probably would have DNF'd this. It is a cute story, but it's not great.

I'm giving it 4 stars and I'm not sure why. There is something charming about the characters but also very off about the way the story is delivered. Massive, weird info dumps. Long winded descriptions about mundane things like sand castle competitions and kite flying. Interesting history, but so much that it became boring. Strange dialogue that included info dumps; there's no need to include one's motivations in their dialogue, real people don't do that. Yet, despite all those problems, I loved Dune and Sophie; together and as individuals. I also really enjoyed Mac and Jenna. I wish they had gotten their own book. Finally, Zane and his ex-wife really interested me. I am amazed Kate Angell has taken this long to write their story. I won't read the others in the series, but as soon as Zane's book comes out, I'm snapping that sucker up.

This is such a non-dramatic, non-toxic, non-red flag, super light read. There are many tropes but it's not tragically written or portrayed that way. I've never been to the beach before but I fell in love with it because of how the beauty of the beach community is portrayed in here. It's a great book to go for when you just don't want anything heavy. I loved the development of Sophie. Also, the chemistry is written way better than so many eroticas, not dragged out, not cringey at all. I have no complaints about this one. It's a proper summer read.

Sophie and Dune... these characters were not so interesting to me. I'm the type of reader who doesn't give up on a book very easily, and try my best to finish, but after this one I will have to change my reading habits. The book was so predictable, the characters were boring and there was no sense of time between events.

Another sweet romance! Fast paced plot laced with humor and emotion. I love the way Angell sets the scenes with realistic characters and settings. Thoroughly enjoyed this novel and am starting the next one today!

No Strings Attached warmed my soul, mind and heart. Such a perfect sweet read.
I’m going to put this out first thing; No Strings Attached is very heartwarming and tender. There is no action, angst, love triangles, back stabbing, and mystery. There aren’t even explicit sex scenes in the novel, but lovely touching ones. This book is sweet, light hearted and a nice change of pace. If you only read books with any of the above, you will likely not like No Strings Attached. But if you want something that you can enjoy with fun loving characters, budding romance, lighthearted monologue and the beautiful setting of the Florida gulf coast than this book is for you. Now that that has been said…
Sofie has loved Dune for almost two decades. From the moment he saved her, he had her heart; even if she was only seven years old. Years later, even after she found out he was from the enemy camp, she continued to watch him grow into the man he is today. Unfortunately, after a few weeks of fun with him last summer, he left Barefoot William without even saying goodbye; leaving Sofie behind with a broken heart.
Well it’s summer time again and she has a mission to start living. She may have lived a sheltered life for her first 25 years, but now she is going to try new things and discover what makes Sofie tick.
Dune has had two things on his mind this last year. Upfront it is his career. He is still working out an injury that may ruin his pro volleyball career and then in the back of his mind is a sweet, shy woman that burrowed into his heart. From the moment he met Sofie he has wanted to cosset and watch over her. His body may want more, but with their age difference he won’t listen to it.
Now he is back in town and Sofie Saunders is going to be the death of him. Why is the quiet, timid, klutzy Sofie taking on uni-cycling and stilt walking? The woman can barely talk in bare feet, let alone stay balanced feet off the ground. Looks like Dune will be looking after her while he is in town.
Their friendship is rekindled and things start to heat up. Can these two totally different people find happiness when one has only eyes for him and he only wants a relationship that has no strings attached?
For me this was simply divine. I fell in love with Sofie in the first book, No Tan Lines, and she solidified her place in my heart with this book. This woman is kindness, love and forgiveness all wrapped into a gentle soul that shines as bright as the sun. She may have been alone growing up, but the woman is a beacon and people are drawn to her now. It’s inevitable that Dune couldn’t fight his attraction. She is just perfect.
Dune is just as darn cute. Here is a man that has been surrounded by fame and fortune, countless beach bunnies and the iconic life of a professional athlete. He has retained his small town charm and his heart and soul will always be in Barefoot William. I’m so glad that he didn’t fight his brain for the placement of Sofie in his life. He knew what he had and he grabbed onto her with both hands and followed his heart. What a lovely beautiful man.
I enjoy Ms. Angell’s style of writing in this series. It’s a different style and may not appease the masses. Just like the last book in this series, it wasn’t just about this one couple. She added in another in the shadows and made the adventure even more exciting. I enjoyed the second couple as much as the main one. She included all the characters POV, four in total. This can bother some people, but I didn’t have a problem with it one bit.
Barefoot William residents are also a joy to visit. This community will draw you in and make you one of their own. The warm feelings I get from this book is so wonderful. This is not my normal reading genre, but one that I enjoy visiting once in a while. I’m glad I ventured here. Ms. Angell did a wonderful job and I can only hope that it won’t be a year until the next installment.

Sofie has loved Dune for almost two decades. From the moment he saved her, he had her heart; even if she was only seven years old. Years later, even after she found out he was from the enemy camp, she continued to watch him grow into the man he is today. Unfortunately, after a few weeks of fun with him last summer, he left Barefoot William without even saying goodbye; leaving Sofie behind with a broken heart.
Well it’s summer time again and she has a mission to start living. She may have lived a sheltered life for her first 25 years, but now she is going to try new things and discover what makes Sofie tick.
Dune has had two things on his mind this last year. Upfront it is his career. He is still working out an injury that may ruin his pro volleyball career and then in the back of his mind is a sweet, shy woman that burrowed into his heart. From the moment he met Sofie he has wanted to cosset and watch over her. His body may want more, but with their age difference he won’t listen to it.
Now he is back in town and Sofie Saunders is going to be the death of him. Why is the quiet, timid, klutzy Sofie taking on uni-cycling and stilt walking? The woman can barely talk in bare feet, let alone stay balanced feet off the ground. Looks like Dune will be looking after her while he is in town.
Their friendship is rekindled and things start to heat up. Can these two totally different people find happiness when one has only eyes for him and he only wants a relationship that has no strings attached?
For me this was simply divine. I fell in love with Sofie in the first book, No Tan Lines, and she solidified her place in my heart with this book. This woman is kindness, love and forgiveness all wrapped into a gentle soul that shines as bright as the sun. She may have been alone growing up, but the woman is a beacon and people are drawn to her now. It’s inevitable that Dune couldn’t fight his attraction. She is just perfect.
Dune is just as darn cute. Here is a man that has been surrounded by fame and fortune, countless beach bunnies and the iconic life of a professional athlete. He has retained his small town charm and his heart and soul will always be in Barefoot William. I’m so glad that he didn’t fight his brain for the placement of Sofie in his life. He knew what he had and he grabbed onto her with both hands and followed his heart. What a lovely beautiful man.
I enjoy Ms. Angell’s style of writing in this series. It’s a different style and may not appease the masses. Just like the last book in this series, it wasn’t just about this one couple. She added in another in the shadows and made the adventure even more exciting. I enjoyed the second couple as much as the main one. She included all the characters POV, four in total. This can bother some people, but I didn’t have a problem with it one bit.
Barefoot William residents are also a joy to visit. This community will draw you in and make you one of their own. The warm feelings I get from this book is so wonderful. This is not my normal reading genre, but one that I enjoy visiting once in a while. I’m glad I ventured here. Ms. Angell did a wonderful job and I can only hope that it won’t be a year until the next installment.

I love when I find new authors along with new series and Angell and her Barefoot William Beach #2 did not disappoint. The Cates family were an easy bunch to get to know even though there were so many of them; the Saunders not so much. Talk about being born on the wrong side of Center Street vs. with a silver spoon in your mouth.
This was mainly the story of the Cates family and how Sophie Saunders connected with all of them. Throughout I loved the give and take between the different family members and friends. I loved the camaraderie, the friendships, the thrill of the chase and the romance, the caring and thoughtfulness shown to others in the family as well as to outsiders being brought into their circle. There was laughter, some tears, happiness and sorrow, fear, acceptance, lots and lots of hot and steamy romance, love and several happily ever afters. Some HEA’s were hoped for and several were very unexpected. I particularly found it heartwarming when Sophie’s mother had an actual conversation with her – not just telling her what she should or shouldn’t do – and they seemed to connect. Watching how shy Sophie could draw anyone in and make them comfortable was a rare treat. She was always so caring – seeing all that went on around her and helping those that needed help without drawing attention to herself or taking credit. Watching first the chemistry and then the love grow between Sophie and Dune as well as Mac and Jenna kept me turning the pages far into the night. There was nice closure tying up all the loose ends.
All in all a wonderful introduction to a new author with her books getting added to my always growing TBR pile. I look forward to reading book one in the series and hope there will be others that follow! A great summer read since the story takes place in Florida on the water, the beach and the boardwalk in the fictitious town of Barefoot William! You’ll have to read it to see why the town has such an interesting name!

As with No Tan Lines, the first book of the Barefoot Williams series, Kate Angell again excels when it comes to setting and atmosphere. No Strings Attached is a quick, light, cute, beach read. For me, the best part of Angell's contemporary read is that she made me want to be on that boardwalk playing beach volleyball, eating ice cream cones, and enjoying some summer fun!
The romances, yes, there are two of them again, are okay, but again not on the sweeping side of the scale. The central romance between Sophie Saunders and Dune Cates is light, sweet and lacks real conflict. Sophie suffers from multiple phobias and Dune helps her get over them, which is cute at the beginning, but gets kind of tiring after a while. The same goes for Dune's protectiveness and rather unreal, unending, patience and sweet understanding -- those scenes with the hamsters pushed me over the edge as I found them to be over-the-top sugary sweet.
On the other hand, the romance between Dune's volleyball partner Mac and Jenna Cates is fraught with conflict and fun. Mac is a womanizer, a boy/man who has a tough time filtering what comes out of his mouth. Jenna is sharp-tongued, sarcastic, and not the type of woman to really put up with Mac. They seem not to like each other and argue. I like how she makes him work for a relationship. Mac is an obnoxious womanizer and a pain in the ass, but unlike Dune who at times seems more like a protective brother to Sophie than a lover, Mac is fun and falls passionately in love with Jenna. Yes, Mac has some of the best lines in this book. "He gives good fun."
Ms. Angell's No Strings Attached was a mixed bag for me. It's strange. I highly enjoy the atmosphere she creates in these contemporary romances and love Barefoot William as a setting, but there is something missing for me when it comes to her romances. Yet, I gobbled up this book in one sitting, just like I would a sweet ice cream cone. So do I recommend it? I recommend it for those of you looking for a quick, sweet, summery romance.

This is my first Kate Angell book. I realized after reading the first few paragraphs the readers must have met these characters in a previous book. Undaunted, I continued, relying on the fact the author would fill me in on the highpoints of what I missed. Luckily she did. I liked the professional volleyball angle. It’s fresh, not overdone and definitely made me want to go to the beach.
What I found hard to get past was the author’s lack of faith in her reader’s memories or ability to understand the actions that just happened. She felt the need after every cute interaction to literally explain to me what I was supposed to walk away with. It got so distracting that by the middle, she wasn’t even keeping with the POV. She’d literally sum up the other character’s thought/action in a way that the character’s head we were in would have NO WAY of knowing. For that I had to drop the stars. I also found the second love-interest storyline rushed and too much. At first I thought she was seeding Mac and Jenna’s romance for the third book. That I totally would’ve loved and would’ve read (if I could get past the summing up thing). But to have it wrapped up by the end left me feeling cheated and thinking, WTH?

I had been waiting for this book since book one. In book one I wanted the Duane and Sophie story more than main characters.
When I got to this book I felt ore drawn to Mac's story as much, if not more than Duane and Sophies.
A good read that I finished during one flight, but left me wondering if Zane's is next. She teased with him and I hope he's next on the docket for his turn, or return to love.
Duane's decision to go from friend like to boyfriend like with Sophie happens rather quickly, but I think he always knew deep down he felt something different for her, but wasn't sure what.
And as the first book I found myself enjoying the secondary characters story more than the lead. Mac met his match and it was funny to watch him realize how he felt and fall hard.
I like that Sophie didn't change too drastically, she evolved, gained confidence and stayed true to who she is. Which is nice because often in books there is a drastic transformation from shy girl to bombshell overnight.
Overall an enjoyable read with two love stories for the price of one. A quick light enjoyable romance.

This book follows a previous one but things are explained enough that it can be read at any time. The feud continues or has it ended with the marriage: Cates and Saunders.
They drew the line in town, Shaye from the working people part and Trace from the very high class exclusive part of town, they merged and married. On we find his sister Sophie who's not found her niche in life, working and volunteering til she finds something she might want to do with the rest of her life.
She has eyes for the volleyball pros and knows she'll never have one as a boyfriend but also lays eyes on Duane.
The boardwalk is such a lively fun magical place. I could sit nearby and just watch all day long there are so many shops to visit.
The book also follows others who are testing the waters.
Sophie is terrified of the water and with help she might overcome her fears...
Bantering of sex and scenes add to this story.
