Mind of the Demon: A Memoir of Motocross, Madness, and the Metal Mulisha

Rate this book
Larry Linkogle was a child-prodigy motocross racer who turned pro at age 15. A daredevil and rebel from the start, he quit the sport in spectacular fashion during a major national event and went home to create a new extreme sport -- Freestyle Motocross (FMX) -- marked by high-flying stunts and death-defying action. From there, the ride just got wilder.

On a lark, he and a friend created The Metal Mulisha -- now a top brand in FMX -- and he was on a fast track to the good life. But after a near-fatal accident, "Link "made a series of decisions that almost finished him off for good -- getting involved in prescription drugs, drug and gun running, underground fistfighting, and other behavior that compromised his health, his relationships, and his career.

After hitting rock bottom and experiencing a moment of clarity, Link began to turn things around, salvaging and strengthening the things that mattered most. Now an icon to millions of extreme sports fans, Link is well on the road to a happy ending.

This book was really good, I honestly loved it and I don’t like to read. This book is about a Larry Linkogle and his life and career of being a motocross racer to a freestyler (freerider). The author of this book is the main person which is Larry Linkogle and his writing style is like a narrative and he also says what he wants, he says some curse words in the book but it to me goes along with the book and you understand it more. I really like this book because it talks about riding which I love but it talks about metal mulisha and this guy Larry and how became who he is and how he started the metal mulisha, your learning the background of them and also learning about the dude that came up with it and why and how he did it. This book relates a lot to present day still, people only want the money and famous and some friends stabbing you in the back and not sticking with you and people judging. One of the biggest issues was the people judging, there just a group of guys just enjoying what they love and people are hating on something they love but those guys don’t care because they love to ride and they are really good at it. This book get’s you thinking about how friends can stab you in the back for money or fame and also get’s you thinking of you shouldn’t judge people for what they believe in or what they like because they became up with a new sport and started a business, they believed in there stuff and didn’t care what people thought of them or what they did they just did it and that’s really cool.

Mind of the Demon by Larry Linkogle is an amazing book. It is about Larry’s life and all the hard things he went through like his hobby of motocross and his drug addiction colliding together. I found this book during covid when school got shut down and I had to get work to do but I never ended up reading it until I had an assignment for school.
This book is about Larry Linkogle who at a young age loved riding bikes then that turned into riding dirt bikes. He started racing and he got really good and got a bunch of sponsors. His life then flipped upside down and he got into drugs and parties and hung out with a bad crowd. After all the bad he managed to turn his life around.
I really like how the book ended, Larry gets clean for drugs and he starts a new life. He gets closer than ever with his son and he helps other people that need help. He becomes more successful than ever and he is happy with himself, each person he helps makes him happier.
This book would be a really good book for you if you are interested in dirt bikes or even if you like to read a recovery story or success story.

The book Mind of the Demon, by Larry Linkogle, is a book that had sucked me into another reality. As an individual who is not very into books, this book not only sucked me into another reality, but it also gave me a new perspective looking at sports and athletes. It is quite common to read about athletes who often strive at a sport, have a downhill, and their story of how they got everything together and became successful. Mind of the Demon is a very unique book as it shows the main character, Larry, as a striving dirt biker and the painful path he took which led to his downfall. You see him as a kid, interested in dirt bikes, to winning competition, and then you read a story of his rebellious stage and his pour decisions.

The book was told in a first person point of view. Because Mind of the Demon is a memoir, the fact that it was told through the authors view was important as we get to understand his thoughts and reasons behind his choices. Also,The author had a very strong use of diction to show the strong distaste his parents had in him as well as his sponsors. It was very clear at times, what would seem normal for a normal person, is not suitable for athletes which was portrayed well because of the authors diction.

If you enjoyed reading books which lead you into a world of sports, drugs, rebellious stages of a teen I would highly recommend reading Buck. Buck is about a young African American who is born into a world of drugs and gang fights. I would also recommend watching the Blind Side which is about a high schooler who is extremely poor, and a family adopts him, and his story to his success of football.

The main character in this book is Larry Linkogle. He was all around a crazy guy who got into really bad drug use and some gang use. He wrote this book to tell his story of his eventfull life. Although this book has drug use its still a very good book. He grew up racing motocross then made the sport of Freestyle Motocross. When Freestyle kinda got big and popular compaines wanted to sponscor athletes. When you get sponcored most likely they will give you money. To Larry he used this money for negative usess. When he finally got straigten up he reliazed that he was getting taken advantage of. Larry and his friend Brian Deegan created this company called Metal Mulisha which is a very big motocross company today. They sponcoser the very best of the sport including myself.

I chose to read this book because Larry owens Metal Mulisha which whom im sponcored by for racing. Plus i really love motocross and this story explains how everything really started.

What worked in the book was that I can relate to it. I can relate to mostly everything because i have a passion for motocross and truely love doing it.

What didn't work for me was really just the drug use. I think drugs ruin lives and are very bad. Nobody likes drugs or likes them around them.

My overall impression I thought the book was amazing. It really stood out to me because i think itll be very hard for him to write a story that goes that deep into his life.

I think everyone should really read this book not only mototcross fans but just everyone its a truly fantasic story.

I am a fan of Motocross and also of the autobiography/memoir genre, so I jumped at the opportunity too read this book. I am very pleased to report that this book did not disappoint in the expectations I had. This was one of, if not the best autobiography I have read in quite some time. Why? Because of the brutal honesty in the telling of the story.

From the highest high to the lowest low Larry Linkogle takes us along on the wild ride and does nothing to cover our eyes from the scene being painted around us. This book clearly demonstrated the ability of the human spirit to overcome.

I recommend this book not only to sports fans or fans of the autobiography/memoir genre, but to everyone.

I thought this book was very good. It was about a guy named Larry Linkogle and he does freestyle motocross.
This guy was the one who started the Metal Mulisha which is like a motocross gang but they very popular in the motocross world. So this book was about how he formed and what made home form it. He had a rough child hood so when he was older he needed people that supported him and that actually liked him. He did not get much of that as a child so that is why he liked the group of people.
I would recommend this book to 8-10 graders. People that like good biography's would like this book.

Inspirational.

A very inspirational book written by the "wambat" himself. Talks about the ups and downs and the harsh struggles of life. I recommend this novel to anyone interested in the sport of freestyle. Anyone can overcome their addiction's. All they need is the right attitude and the willingness to do so. I always liked the Metal Mulisha, but after reading this book I wear that skull with pride!
