I have enjoyed this series so much but in this one, I was so OVER Jason Wallace and his ott evilness, I was ready to kill him myself. Plus Evie got on my NERVES! She really was tstl- over and over. WOW, just WOW!!! Donna Grant has done it again and although I am sad this amazing series has come to an end, with the exception on the holiday novella, I don't feel there was much more Donna could have done to make Midnight's Promise any better. First, I must say that I have loved me some Malcolm from the moment he was introduced into this series and this is a book that I’ve been hoping and praying would come to pass. I could hardly wait to delve in as I had one thing on my mind: Malcolm Malcolm Malcolm! And, for those of you that share my obsession with this scarred Highland Warrior, you won’t be disappointed! I LOVED this book!

Malcolm has been an outsider throughout this series and we’ve seen him drift further and further away from those that want to help him. He is one of the most flushed out characters of this series with his heart-wrenching back-story from being attacked while on his way to visit Larena, only to be captured by Deidre and the horrors that came afterward. I have been dying for him to find happiness and of course his mate (if it must be someone other than me *sigh*)!

Evie on the other hand seems to be pretty naïve most of the time, but I found myself really liking her. She also starts to mature as the book continues, which is nice. It’s interesting to see how her decisions truly affect the other characters of this series.

This book really brings everything to a head, especially the conflict with Jason. We get to see what Jason’s end plan is and how he expects to use Evie and Malcolm to achieve it. After certain actions are put into motion, it leaves you wondering how the Warriors, Druids, and Dragons will ever overcome the obstacles laid before them, but I never had a doubt that they would!

This book focuses on the prophecy mentioned in the previous installment, Midnight’s Temptation, and I loved every second of it! There is so much emotion and action that I couldn’t put it down! And, I’m in fact writing this at 2 a.m., since that is when I finally read the last sentence of the book.

Like I mentioned, this book is awesome, but it is also bittersweet. They last few pages makes it appear that this will be the final book of the series. It reminds me very much of the end of a movie where they show pictures of the character and have you read below each one to find out what happened to them; how they ended up. And, it makes everything seem so final with the series. It makes sense as all the Warriors are now mated, but it doesn’t make me any less sad about it. Hopefully we will still see glimpses of our favorites throughout the rest of the Dragon Kings series, which seems to have endless possibilities considering the unnumbered amount of Kings in existence!

I urge all you Donna Grant fans, especially my fellow Malcolm lovers, to go out, buy this book, read it (over and over again), cherish it, and just enjoy! I know this book is one that I will not be satisfied by reading only once. ...more

finally malcolm got his happy ending!!!! i have loved this character from the beginning. i knew that donna would give him the happy ending he has so deserved. when evangeline meets malcolm he is just barely holding on to what humanity he has left. together these two will fight for their happy ending . and the evil that has plagued him and all the other dark warriors will be defeated for now. donna grant is one of the best writer's. this book is a must read 5 star story!!! if you havent read any ...more

Malcolm and Evangeline...

An awesome ending to an awesome series. Even though poor Malcolm had to endure horrific experiences with death, he got his HEA.

To he honest, I wanted to slap Evie a few times for being so naive and uninformed - but... I managed to warm up towards her in the end.
Awesome storyline and characters! Loved every second of the journey...

The last of the Dark Warriors series. I loved it and how the author has every warrior and Druid make a final appearance and lets you know where they end up and how they are doing. Malcom and Evie’s Story was so compelling and competed the series nicely.

A Great end to a fantastic series! Donna sure knows what we as readers want! It all wrapped up nicely. I was grinning and crying at the same time. It's sad to see a series come to an end but I know we haven't seen the last of the warriors and the druids who complete them. I do hope we see them appear in the Dragon King Series!

My favorite of them all!! I thought I hated Malcolm! I did for so long because he was so cold and hateful and unfeeling. I really didn’t know how Ms. Grant was going to do a total 180 again on a character like Malcolm, who I loved as a human until he let the bitterness and resentment build inside of him enough to allow evil to take hold of him in the form of Diedre. I felt for him for a time after the cruelty that Diedre and her warriors dealt him when he was on his way to the castle 12/15-18/18
My favorite of them all!! I thought I hated Malcolm! I did for so long because he was so cold and hateful and unfeeling. I really didn’t know how Ms. Grant was going to do a total 180 again on a character like Malcolm, who I loved as a human until he let the bitterness and resentment build inside of him enough to allow evil to take hold of him in the form of Diedre. I felt for him for a time after the cruelty that Diedre and her warriors dealt him when he was on his way to the castle to see how his cousin Larena was doing. But the bitterness and resentment he held inside of him changed him, made him into such a cruel man that by the time Diedre found him again when he left the castle he was well on his way to already being what Diedre needed. And I still don’t agree with the reasons why he did what he did, why he helped Diedre, even though he says he was doing it to keep Larena safe but she had a mate to do that and really - are we now believing the word of evil??!...but I guess we’ll never know the depths to which we’ll go to save a loved one if we were ever in that situation. Thankfully, God didn’t breathe life to evil magical beings!

Anyway, I honestly started reading this book just knowing I will continue hating Malcolm because how in the world is Ms. Grant going to change his attitude in one book that hasn’t happened in the previous 7-9, or however long it’s been? I know love can do a lot of things but...I thought it was going to be a fast turnaround and that just wouldn’t have worked. But I LOVED THIS STORY...I think this is actually my favorite of them all...she weaved his story and his way out of his own personal hell so perfectly.

It didn’t happen so fast that it was unbelievable...you felt his anguish, his guilt, his newfound feelings as they each came to be inside him...I fell in love with Malcolm slowly as his feelings came back. You’d think by now I’d have learned not to hate certain characters because somehow they always end up redeeming themselves and I feel so guilty for hating them.

But honestly, Malcolm found himself again, the man he used to be before he was almost killed...only better now that he has a family to protect, and a woman who loves him for himself.

Evie was perfect for Malcolm. She didn’t push him, but allowed him to come into his feelings and grow into the man he was meant to become. She was a strong woman for him and stuck up for him when it was needed.

She also fought for him, to get him back from the hell that Jason kept putting him through, which was in the clutches of Death. He fought the best he could by thinking of Evie and Evie also used her magic and fought for him. Their love was electrifying! I never thought I’d say that regarding Malcolm but ...WOW! There was no more deserving woman for him and visa versa. I’m glad she saw the real him through his scars...she never saw the scars as a hindrance, or as anything other than a part of who he is, but actually thought they made him more handsome. A more deserving woman for him, he could not find. And he stuck up for her and stood by his woman against his family, who half believed was a dangerous drough.

I don’t normally give detailed reviews like this so I’m new to this, so forgive me if it jumps around too much or doesn’t make sense. But after saying I hated Malcolm in the last book review, I had to write something about this book because Malcolm’s story, I believe, turned out to be my favorite and Malcolm turned out to be one of my favorite warriors. Ms. Grant couldn’t have done Malcolm ‘s story any better in my opinion!

That being said...I still don’t understand how there are so many grammatical/spelling/wrong word choice errors when there is supposedly an editor, but I guess it’s just me - I know if this was my work I wouldn’t want so many errors in the completed work I give my fans. Some errors I don’t mind but honestly what good is an editor or proofreader or a publisher for that matter? I thought publishers were supposed to make sure that everything was good to go before being published? But this book had way less than half the errors as Charon’s book and that’s saying something. At least I didn’t feel as if I were reading a draft copy. I’m not an editor, but I’ve always loved English and love reading so I see a lot of the errors in these books and I guess it’s a pet peeve. But that’s why I don’t understand how these errors aren’t caught before being published...if the readers can catch all these errors (and I KNOW I’m not the only one seeing all these errors), don’t you think it’s about time someone on the other end of these books finally takes notice and says hmm...why are so many errors NOT getting caught before being published!? And we’re still paying these editors?! For what? I say you need to fire the editors you’re using for these books. Only then will they learn that they can’t fake being a good editor. Or give the readers a chance to help edit these books...I wouldn’t mind helping edit my favorite authors books! I bet the end-product would be much better than what it has been with the editors you’ve been using. Ask several fans to edit the same book and see what you get. Offer free books and maybe a free e-reader to some...I’d be happy with free books. Saves you money and the fans get something out of it as well. I’d love it. ...more

The last book of the series has enough "oh no!" moments to keep readers on their toes to the last page. Time is running out for Malcolm. From the moment Drierdre's warriors nearly killed him, leaving him maimed and therefore unacceptable as a laird, Malcolm has been lost. Writing style is getting a little boring, this has been a long series with too much predictability for my tastes. Wish she would try to mix it up a bit. Not sure that I will continue on to the next series.

I just felt too many times that she developed these characters in past books, but then doesn’t know how to bring them to build onto each other to make the series stronger as each book comes out, with the exception of a few warriors. Malcolm finally gets his chance at love in this book.
Evangeline Walker put up a web site to display a necklace that has drough magic in order to see if there are other drought out in the world. Her site was hacked, so she went on the run. Malcolm found her and followed her to Cantoole mountain. (She hears rocks and they told her to come. )

Thank god that psycho got wtf came 2 him again!! Even though she was tricked she stayed good so she was able 2 withstand the evil so much. Even though phelan was trying 2 protect his friend he realized what they told him about being in that same situation. Well done! The many layers of relationships, from loyalty, love, betrayal to brotherhood were tested and then some. I was a nervous reck and at the same time annoyed by how many times can one be fooled, ugh....

I loved Malcom’s story and I knew it was hard to see him anything but a pawn, driven by guilt and anger. The camaraderie had to be mentioned because these highlanders and dragons knew no other ways. The plot was fast and exciting but it was the characters that glued series perfectly ...more

Going into this book I wasn’t at all interested in Malcolm’s story, and Midnight’s Promise didn’t change my mind. I was not impressed by Malcolm, and Evie was too stupid to be likable.

With how powerful Jason Wallace was his ending was anticlimactic. I did like the little update at the end on how each warrior and Druid chose to live. I do hope they make some cameos in the Dragon series.
