Well, I read it more than a month ago and forgot to review. So here goes.
I liked it, liked the h/H (H only after some way into the book), the plot is good, the villain and ow behave beautifully (read aptly and very evilly).
The h (along with her wealth, of course) wants to escape her evil step brother's clutches and only marriage can save her. She sees this dissolute man who thumbs his nose at the ton and sees nirvana. Only he's an ass, but a contrary principled ass who won't sell himself for money.
No sir, how dare she even imply! But as conveniently her villain turns out to be his villain as well so yes, he can use her for revenge! Without telling her.
Well, revenge is best served openly and by taking everyone's opinion in - as we know from reading such plots for years - and so he too learns soon.
Expectedly, a perfectly timed mu happens.
Oh, he used me.*sob/sigh*
Ummm madam, didn't you do the same?
But I told him everything. Didn't I?
That you did. So yes, now why don't you run away into the night, preferably towards the villain. That would serve your husband just right.
Yes, that's exactly what I will do. But first I will visit that odious ow!
The h is a mute person who can read lips so is able to keep her 'condition' a secret. But each and every word? And even at distances? In spy movies, they use those binoculars, don't they? Well!
The one other thing I have to mention is that the author (or the H) kept changing the h's eye color from blue to brown to golden. Even he's confused what he really sees!
Chapter 3 -“Her eyes were not just dark and mysterious, but a deep blue that defied comprehension”
Chapter 6 - “He looked into eyes so blue he felt he could drown in them. ”
Chapter 10 -“At first I thought they were brown, but they are not. They’re the most unusual shade of gold I have ever seen” Say what?
See, this is the kind of thing that can ruin a whole book!

This book was a bit dark, a bit sweet, a bit crazy. I thought it well written with a simple revenge plot and an evil stepbrother that finds pleasure in literary hurting people.
I will be checking on more of this author works.
PS: makes no sense the girl in the cover being a blond when the heroine is a brunette, but ok. Technicalities.

Yine 3 ile 4 arasındayım. Çok orjinal bir konu, farklı ve beğendiğim bir kadın karakter. ( Hem de çoook beğendiğim) Ama konuyu işleme şekli olmamış. Giriş çok güzel, ilk başlarda şaşırıp kalıyorsunuz bir duruma. Sonrasında gelişme gereksiz uzun, sonuç tatmin etmekten uzak olacak kadar kısa. Keşke sonunda yaşanan olayları, son 15-20 sayfada yazmak yerine biraz daha uzun tutsaydı. O zaman kitaba 5 yıldız yetmezdi benim için.
Konudan hiçbir şekilde bahsetmek istemiyorum, çünkü kitabın başında çok şaşırıyorsunuz. Kesinlikle spoiler almadan okunması gerekiyor o bölümün. Sonunda ise resmen hüzünlendim, Jessica için hem korktum hem üzüldüm.
Keşkeleri olan bir historical ama yine de benim açımdan farklılığını koruyor. Denemenizi tavsiye ederim.

Deaf heroine, Marriage of Convenience, then falls in love... sounds good!
Well, it WAS a marriage of convenience. And they DID agree to marry each other strictly for their own reasons that had nothing to do with love. The heroine really needed the hero for his protection against her super evil nasty step-brother. And the hero had his own personal reasons (that the heroine did not know what they were). Did it matter if she knew his reasons or not? She desperately needed his protection thru marriage, and that's it.
Well, I guess the heroine has a change of heart, change of character, however you want to call it. Even before the wedding, the DEAF heroine was able to see the hero's reflection in a window and READ HIS LIPS from across the room in this window reflection... and his words really offended her and hurt her feelings. She was bent out of shape because he was telling his friend that he was only agreeing to the marriage for business reasons. Um... that's what a marriage of convenience is all about!!! That's when the eye rolls began.
On their wedding night, the hero was physically ill with malaria (that the heroine did not know he suffered from). He was exhausted after the wedding ordeal and immediately retired to his bedroom.
She took great offense at his ignoring her and his disappearing to his bedchambers. More eyerolls.
Lastly, this heroine, who just got married because of her evil nasty step-brother that is after her, decided it was a great idea to leave her house at midnight, alone, to go for a carriage ride to meet with her dress designing business partner. When she returns home to find her new husband extremely worried and upset that she was out and about at midnight ALONE... she just can't believe the nerve of her husband. How dare he! The last of my eyerolls and I DNF'ed the book right there. The deaf heroine that could read lips from across the room and speak at a normal voice level back to ppl ruined the book for me. She was just ridiculous and I lost all interest in her HEA.

Ya ben bu kitaba BAYILDIM!!
Çok naif çok zarif bir tarihi kurguydu. Ve özellikle kadın karaktere hayran oldum ve gözlerimden çıkan kalplerle onu okudum. Çok güçlü bir kadın karakterdi, diğer kitaplardaki gibi hoplayıp zıplayıp kickass yapmadı ama yaşadıkları ile o kadar güçlüydü ki... Ve o zarifliği, naifliği ile yazara hayran kaldım böyle güçlü zeki bir kadın karakter yazması inanılmaz...
Hele ilk elli sayfadan sonra kız hakkında öyle bir şey öğreniyorsunuz ki tahmin bile edemezsiniz -ya da ben tahmin edemedim- ve öğrendikten sonra gözyaşlarım pıt pıt akmaya başladı.Bazı sahneler o kadar içime dokundu ki...
Simon'a gelicek olursak Simon'un davranışları beni yer yer sinir etse de çok düşünceli bir yapısı vardı inanılmazdı.
Her konuştuğunda kızın çenesini kaldırıp gözünün içine bakarak konuşmasına aşık oldum, eridim bittim resmen. Kitabı o kadar sevdim ki kelimelerim yetersiz geliyor hissediyorum. Bazı yerler yersiz kısaydı ama ve bazı yerlerde yersiz uzun da olsa yine de kitap kabulüm.
Jess'in sonda yaptığı şey için kızsam bile ona olan üzüntüm daha ağır bastı. Özellikle Simon'un o tepkisini hiç beklemiyordum.
Jess'in kendi halinde kendi dünyasında mutlu olması o kadar güzeldi ki. Para umrunda bile değildi. On beş pound sahnesinde gözlerim yaşaracaktı nerdeyse.
Ve son sahnedeki o isteği beni yine sarstı ama yine de yazar son sahneyi güzel bağlayıp bitirmişti. İlk defa bir kadın karaktere kitapta bu kadar hayran olduğum için bu benim için şaşırtıcı bir durum oldu. Hep kadın karakterlere uyuz olucak bir nokta ile kapatırdım kitabın kapağını ama bu kesinlikle bir istisna. Kitap diğer tarihi kurgulara benzememesi ile zaten beş yıldızı hakediyor. Şu an elimden gelse on yıldızı basar çıkarım herhalde siteden. Okuyun okumanızı şiddetle tavsiye ediyorum. (Bir de kitabın adıyla konunun olan uyumuna bayıldım.)

DNF at 85%. A bit cheesy, but I kept listening to the audio during a long drive. Devolved into a nonsensical melodrama. Jessica is Mary Sue Martyr. Gag. Simon is Uber Alpha with a touch of Drama Queen. Repetitive dialogue and choppy writing really put the last nail in the coffin. I couldn't get myself to care enough to finish the last 15%. The characters were getting even more OTT cheesy, and the poorly manufactured angst was ridiculous.
Pulled the plug. Not even going to donate the organs.

Definitely a marriage of convenience. Lady Jessica Stanton needs a husband to protect her from her vicious step-brother who is capable of putting her into an asylum all because she is hearing impaired. Simon Warland, Earl of Northcote needs money to restore his family inheritance that his father squandered away after he married his ex-fiance. Both have emotional baggage that they bring to the marriage, but an unexpected attraction and passion seeps its way in their marriage agreement.
When the strong-willed newlyweds began living under the same roof, Simon finds it hard to ignore the woman he has married. She is intelligent, graceful, strong and beautiful and no one sees this as she has hidden herself from the ton to avoid anyone finding out her secrets...her hearing and London’s most infamous fashion designer. Jessica, on the other hand, is very much attracted to Simon. Although he has a formidable side, he is kind and soft-hearted when it comes to her. However, he too has his own demons and secrets in this marriage venture.
Everything unravels when Simon’s true is revealed and Jessica is devastated by his betrayal. Unfortunately, it is too late to hate him as she has fallen in love with the husband she needed in name only. In the end, they find that despite everything they love each other passionately. This is a first read for me by Laura Landon and I loved the story, plot, characters and humor. It is an enjoyable and nice love story that has its twists that pulls your heartstrings in different ways. The intimate scenes are not written but eluded to in the story. Although I am not a fan of Simon using love making every time to coax her into submission. The twists and suspense are good. As always, I am a fan of Rosalyn Landor’s narration. She delivers the right expressions and emotions that draws you into the characters with her voice overs.
I highly recommend this read. This is light hearted romance novel with no detailed intimate scenes but very much worth the read.

Great marriage of convenience story: wallflower (with a secret disability) and cold man set on revenge.
Jessica is a wallflower that keeps a secret (a disability) from the ton. When she inherits a fortune her stepbrother comes after her set on sending her to an asylum and on stealing her money.
A marriage of convenience seems to be the only solution for her problem and she ends up with Lord Northcote, a cold and unfeeling man set on revenge.
The story is emotional, beautiful and well-written.
Great read!

Ehh tabi Sebastian ve Evangeline çiftçimizin yerini tutmasa da Simon ve Jessica ikilisine de bayıldım açıkçası ❤️😍
Yine de Sevgim Sana Ait ile kıyaslanamaz benim için o gerçekten de 5/5 bir kitaptı. Sadece sonu bir tık farklı olabilirdi ama ossun neyse. Bu kitabı da sevdim. Çiftimize bayıldım şahsen. Unuttuğum bir ara tekrar okumayı düşünüyorum... Ki çok uzun sürmez B12 eksikliğim rr yapmaya elverişli 😂

I really enjoyed this book. The plot is revenge with a twist. A hero that has been done wrong and returns to confront and correct the evil that occurred. The story is a bit simple but the characters are so full and enjoyable that I recommend this book.

There is always a book that you read and think what is everyone going on about? Have I just read a completely different book? Silent Revenge is such a book for me. I feel really bad only giving it 2 stars but I could not get on with the books.
The story starts off with Jessica attending a ball and sitting off to the side because she wants to blend in as a wallflower. She does not want to draw attention to herself and discourages any male interest. The only reason Jessica has decided to attend the ball was to see a dress designed by herself (This is kept a secret that only she, her friend and the madam who sells the designs knows) being worn to the ball. However before the Lady arrives the ball is all a flutter as Simon, the Earl of Northcote decided to attend the event. He dominates the room with his massive presence and gossip starts flying as he was accused of killing his own farther for money. Jessica takes notice of him as she is attracted to him. When Jessica is told by her solicitor that her evil step brother is not dead as previously assumed and her stepbrother will try to prove her insane to gain her inheritance she hatches the plan to marry someone who can stand up to him and protect her. She turns up at Simon’s house to offer him a marriage of convenience, while Simon is trying to get drunk at home to forget and make himself feel better. She propose this and he is really rude. I don’t have a problem is the main character is a jerk as long as he redeems himself. I mean I LOVED Sebastian from The Devil in Winter and Sandro from The Unwanted Wife. Simon was too cruel though and I do not feel his character made up for it by the end of the book.

I liked Jessica, it turns out she is deaf and has taught herself to lip read. I felt so sorry for her when she proposes marriage and Simon refuses her as he thinks she’s lying. She turns to her friends for help, she wants to leave the country to be safe. Simon turns up at her friend’s house (yes apparently they have mutual friends) and finds out she was telling the truth. He decides to marry her to get revenge from her stepbrother. He makes sure Jessica knows he only marrying her for money though. The lack of communication is what annoys he, he does not want to admit to her he married her for revenge, he too harsh with Jessica and they do not spend that much time together. I found it unbelievable that Jessica can read someone’s lips from a carriage aswell. I think there were too many issues in this book for me to enjoy it. By the end of it I was a bit meh, I did not care if they feel in love and stayed together or not. I really really wanted to like this story because it had so much promise. This book hasn’t put me off reading Laura Landon books as the writing was good, it was just the story was not for me.
The story starts off with Jessica attending a ball and sitting off to the side because she wants to blend in as a wallflower. She does not want to draw attention to herself and discourages any male interest. The only reason Jessica has decided to attend the ball was to see a dress designed by herself (This is kept a secret that only she, her friend and the madam who sells the designs knows) being worn to the ball. However before the Lady arrives the ball is all a flutter as Simon, the Earl of Northcote decided to attend the event. He dominates the room with his massive presence and gossip starts flying as he was accused of killing his own farther for money. Jessica takes notice of him as she is attracted to him. When Jessica is told by her solicitor that her evil step brother is not dead as previously assumed and her stepbrother will try to prove her insane to gain her inheritance she hatches the plan to marry someone who can stand up to him and protect her. She turns up at Simon’s house to offer him a marriage of convenience, while Simon is trying to get drunk at home to forget and make himself feel better. She propose this and he is really rude. I don’t have a problem is the main character is a jerk as long as he redeems himself. I mean I LOVED Sebastian from The Devil in Winter and Sandro from The Unwanted Wife. Simon was too cruel though and I do not feel his character made up for it by the end of the book.

She believes he can do this because she has a frailty which could give her step-brother cause in the eyes of Regency England. If she marries by her birthday, her fortune would go to her husband, and her husband could protect her from her step-brother's evil intent, if she picks a strong, powerful husband. Simon, Earl of Northcote, is on the brink of losing his estate and all he holds dear unless he finds lots of money. He is also suspected of killing his own father. Lady Jessica proposes marriage to him, bargaining her substantial fortune for Simon's protection.
Both Jessica and Simon have many secrets, past hurts, and enough bitter enemies to drive this story at a pace that remains interesting. I could not put it down. This author knows how to keep her reader's attention! She steadily develops all the characters as she maintains just the right amount of tension as the potent mystery unfolds. The author reveals her plot with mastery.
This book contains beautiful romantic bedroom scenes, not a scientific sex lesson on what part to put where. The author respects her reader, allowing that her reader probably already knows the rudimentary elements of sex. This author allows her hero and heroine to respect each other and develop the sexual tension in tenderness and consideration. This is refreshing!!! I have truly grown tired of the explanation of how a man starts with the woman's breast and explains in great detail how his fingers move for pages and pages. ROMANCE is the keyword for me in romance novels.
Jessica's secret is quite different, also. Other critics have said this book visits all the cliches. I beg to differ. This book kept me guessing until the end and I am a veteran historical romance reader of 100's of books over a couple of decades. Now it does follow the historical romance formula. That is what makes it an historical romance. If one wants something different, read something different. Explore other genres, but if you want a great plot-driven historical Regency romance, with well-developed characters, and a mystery that will keep you guessing until the end, then this book is for you!

This book was very promising when I read the blurb but it didn't live up to my expectations. The villain was far-fetched and the love between the MCs felt non-existent.
Jessica is a recluse. She is the secret legendary modiste who provides designs for ladies' gowns, she is a wallflower but this is because she is deaf. She dreads that people will know so she keeps to herself. She played the part of proud and strong woman until the villain comes prancing in and then she has to have a husband. Yeah... After that it all goes downhill for me.
Simon is a penniless earl who desperately needs money to restore what his father wasted before him. And after he first meets Jessica he becomes so unlikable, so rude and sometimes even vile in the way he treats her. I mean they both stipulate that the marriage is of convenience and I understand that. Jessica fulfills her part of the bargain which is to be unnoticed and undemanding. But Simon being typical arrogant noble that he is wants to get his way in everything. He constantly pushes her to do things she does not want, he exercises his husbandly rights on a whim without asking, he hurts her with his words - even though she can't hear she can read lips very well and, the funny part, she hears more than most. The intimate part is very flowery, almost moonbeams and fluttering wings like. I mean they just had a sexual scene and I didn't even know that it was going on it was so veiled. I understand soaring and all that but really?
They didn't mesh well at all and then suddenly she loved him, he loved her but he still hurled insults when he thought she was not looking and then felt guilty and went on offensive when he got caught with the proverbial hand in a cookie jar. But as Alexander Pushkin said in his work Eugene Onegin: “The less we love her when we woo her, The more we draw a woman in,” - maybe Jessica was alright with that kind of treatment. The less he gave her, the more she craved him.
Last 20% were good. The villain was revealed and boy, was he a sick psycho. Truths buried in the past came to light, enemies were defeated and they lived happily ever after. FINI

Bu kitabı okumaya başlamam çok anlık bir olaydı. Ana karakterin özel durumunu duyunca okumadan duramazdım sanırım.
Jessica çok tatlı bir kadındı. Ailesini genç yaşta kaybettiği için her şeyi tek başına halletmeye çalışmış güçlü biri. Aynı zamanda özel durumu yüzünden kendine güveni olmayan, için kapanık biri. Aileden de baya büyük bir miras kalmış -asla öğrenemedik şu mirası çok içimde kaldı- kalıyor. olaylarda burada başlıyor. Baş erkek karakterimizle tanışıyor ama tabi ki ilk başta anlaşılmış gibi kıza kaba davranıyor.
hikaye ilerledikçe Simon'un nasıl özverili bir adam olduğunu anlıyoruz. Sanırım bu zamana kadar okuduğum en kararlı adamlardan biriydi. Jessicanın o yaşadığı korkularla Jessi bir bir yüzleştiriyor. Hanım kızımızı kabuğundan çıkarıyor. Kızın tüm sınırlarını zorluyor kısaca. O kadar planlı bir şekilde yapıyor ki bunu hayran olmamak elde değil. Ama beyfendiciğimizin tek kusuru açıklama yapmasını bilmiyor.
Hikayede diğer bir sevdiğim nokta Hintli uşak oldu. Adam sürekli "Bir dahaki yaşamımda xxx olucam, size..." Hikayede sanırım tek güldüğüm noktalar bu oldu. İyi ki hikayeye dahil edilmiş.
Yazarın okuduğum ilk kitabıydı bu yüzden kitap sansürlenmiş mi yoksa yazar normalde de bu şekilde mi yazıyor anlamadım. Kitabı okurken bazen gece olan olayları konuşuyorlar ama mesela kitapta yazmıyordu. Bunun dışında hiç bir sorunu yoktu. Genel olarak bakılınca güzel bir kitaptı.

Bu kitaba dolu dolu bir yorum yaraşır bence. Okuduğum en değişik konulu tarihi aşk romanıydı. İlk sayfasından son sayfasına kadar büyük bir keyifle okudum. Yazarını bundan sonra sıkı takipçilerinden biri olacağım. Umuyorum ki yayınevi de yeni kitapları için bizi çok fazla bekletmeyecektir.
Bu kitabı benim için özel kılan kısma gelirsem eğer; bu zamana kadar okuduğum historical romance kitaplarında kadın kahramanın bir sırrı varsa çok da değişik bir şey çıkmıyor. Ya daha önce biriyle birlikte olmuştur, bâkire değildir. Ya da efendim kötü bir skandal kurbanı olmuştur. Sessiz İntikam'ın da arka kapak konusunu okuduğum zaman açıkçası Jesse'nin de böyle bir sırrı olduğunu düşünerek başladım kitaba. Ve okurken de sürekli sırrı yüzünden evlenemeyeceğini söyleyip, sürekli balolardan ve bekâr erkeklerden uzak durunca aklıma gelen seçenekler sınırlandı tabi.
Eh böyle olunca da kitabın konusu gözümde canlanır oldu ! Ama ne kadar yanılmışım kitabın bir sayfasına geldiğim de bunu anladım. Hiç beklemediğim bir yerde kitap benim için 5/5lik bir durum aldı. Çünkü beklediğim sır gerçekten bu değildi.
Hal böyle olunca da kitabın benim için okuma süresi hem çok hızlı oldu hem de keyifle bitirdim. Tek şikâyet ettiğim yer; sonu çok hızlı bağlamış. Biraz daha uzun olsun istediğim için mi yoksa yetersiz geldiği için mi bilmiyorum daha detaylı olmalıydı kanısındayım. Onun dışında her sayfasından keyif alarak okudum.
Jesse'nin sırrını hepinizin merak ettiğinden eminim. Kızımız 25 yaşına merdiven dayamış bekâr ve ailesini kaybettiği için tek başına birkaç yardımcısıyla beraber yaşayan güzel ama bakımsız bir baronun kızı. Bu zamana kadar hiç evlenmediği gibi balo, parti vb davetler de dahil birçok etkinlikten uzak duran. Katıldığında ise köşelerden çekilmeyen. Dikkat çekmemek için her yolu deneyen birisi Jessica. Ama bunun için de gerçekten geçerli bir sebebi. Hem de ne sebep. Kitabı okurken kurduğum tüm kurguları yıkan bir sebep. Okurken sürekli gözlerimi dolduran bir sebep..

Looks like I've found another KU author! Yay!
I thoroughly enjoyed this MOC book, and despite it having a very run of the mill set up I found it refershing in a way. Will definitely be reading more by the author.
Jessica Stanton has a secret, one she must keep from the world at all costs. And this secret has kept her hidden away from polite society for long enough, but when circumstances force her out of her carefully sheltered life she realizes she isn't as inedept as she's believed herself to be. Years after her father's death Jessica suddenly comes into her inheritance, a shocking sum that her evil step-brother will stop at nothing to get his hands on.
Jessica realizes she has only one way to combat his designs on her future, and that is to marry. Which brings to propose an arranged marraige to Simon Westland, Earl of Northcote. Everyone knows he's in desperate need of money, and she's just come into the motherload. All she asks for in return is the protection his name would provide her from her stepbrother. She hopes to continue her simple, sheltered life as she had before but Simon turns everything around by refusing to allow her to be held back by her limitations.
I loved the story despite the undertone of a larger theme of revenge on Simon's part and the angst ridden past between Simon and his father, then Simon and his former fiance, and then finally Simon and Colin (Jessica's stepbrother). Somehow, since they weren't quite overpowering I didn't mind these additions. And the author spent most of the time with the main couple and developing their feelings and love for one another, which is probably why I enjoyed the story a lot. The drama doesn't happen for at least the last 10% of the book and is quite well done so I didn't roll my eyes.
Overall an enjoyable read and I'm off to find more by the author!

DNF at 48%.
I picked up this book because I was intrigued by the deaf heroine plot line. Off the bat the hero was horribly disgustingly rude. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt (he was drunk, he's depressed.. He was really drunk) but the author has to write their first kiss in that scene really? The one where he insults and disgraces her?
But the hero got no better in the next scene where he's again disgustingly rude- and sober. He says quote "“Or perhaps His Grace doesn’t know that you offered to sell yourself to me. Perhaps he doesn’t realize how desperate you are to trap a husband. Could it be he still thinks you came only to offer the money and not your body?”
What follows is the hero telling no, COMANDING the heroine to marry him. Worse, he never apologizes. He's barely polite to her. And when the weak heroine (who I'll get to in a second) does dare question his orders he bellows and yells and throws things and smashes glass... Seriously.
The heroine is no better, she started off so strong willed. But she falls a part the instant she sees the hero. She barely stands up for herself and let's him make all the decisions only to fume on her own later. But worst of all she has horrible self esteem. Uzun zamandır okuduğum en güzel tarihi aşk romanı diyebilirim.. Hiçbir anından sıkılmadım, büyük bir keyifle okudum..
Jessica'nın sırrının ne olduğuna dair bir sürü tahminde bulundum ama öğrendiğimde şok oldum, hiç aklıma bile gelmemişti.. Yazar çok güzel gizlemiş Jessica'nın bulunduğu ortamları anlatırken.. Bu sırrı yüzünden, bir aristokrat kızı olmasına rağmen hep arka planlarda kalmayı seçmiş, göze çarpmamak için çabalamış.. Ehh haliyle de 25 yaşına gelmiş olmasına rağmen evlenememiş..
Ancak üvey kardeşi Colin'le ilgili büyük bir sorun patlak verince, tek çaresinin evlenmek olduğuna karar veriyor.. Ve bu karar doğrultusunda bir baloda karşısına çıkan Northcote Kontu Simon'ın bunun için doğru insan olduğunu düşünüyor..
Ve hiç vakit kaybetmeden ona teklifini sunuyor, karşılığında da Simon'ın ihtiyaç duyduğu şeyi teklif ederek.. Ve işte o anda Jesse'nin büyük sırrı yüzümüze çarpılıyor..
Çok çok güzeldi, yorumu uzatmaya gerek yok. Kesinlikle okuyun diyorum ;)
Jessica'nın sırrının ne olduğuna dair bir sürü tahminde bulundum ama öğrendiğimde şok oldum, hiç aklıma bile gelmemişti.. Yazar çok güzel gizlemiş Jessica'nın bulunduğu ortamları anlatırken.. Bu sırrı yüzünden, bir aristokrat kızı olmasına rağmen hep arka planlarda kalmayı seçmiş, göze çarpmamak için çabalamış.. Ehh haliyle de 25 yaşına gelmiş olmasına rağmen evlenememiş..
Ancak üvey kardeşi Colin'le ilgili büyük bir sorun patlak verince, tek çaresinin evlenmek olduğuna karar veriyor.. Ve bu karar doğrultusunda bir baloda karşısına çıkan Northcote Kontu Simon'ın bunun için doğru insan olduğunu düşünüyor..
Ve hiç vakit kaybetmeden ona teklifini sunuyor, karşılığında da Simon'ın ihtiyaç duyduğu şeyi teklif ederek.. Ve işte o anda Jesse'nin büyük sırrı yüzümüze çarpılıyor..
Çok çok güzeldi, yorumu uzatmaya gerek yok. Kesinlikle okuyun diyorum ;)

A deaf dress-designing heroine and a hero bent on revenge
First let me say this story doesn't have explicit sex. Some readers will welcome this.
The story is great after you get past the proposal scene. The characters were well thought out. There was enough drama and angst to keep me interested.
The heroine had a bad habit of believing gossip and jumping to conclusions - that is why I only gave it 4 stars. It was pretty annoying.
The hero was your classic "never falling in love again" male. And his backstory was 😱 🤮. He should have been straight with the heroine about who Rosalind was. This also contributed to the missing star.
The bad guy gets his due and the HEA is wrapped up in a nice shiny little ending.

Jessica and Simon. A heroine who has hidden her deafness from the Ton since she was a girl. An anti hero who is at first a complete jerk... well actually he's a jerk over and over again. But eventually pulls his head out of his arse. A psychopathic villain. A handful of friends. A self absorbed vain step mother with loose morals (to say the least).
I've never read this author before and was expecting a rather fluffy historical romp and it does start out rather boring. But once word comes that Jessica's step brother is still alive and returning to England, the tension starts to increase. Then she meets Simon in a plea to make a bargain to save both their futures by a marriage of convenience. Well that's when the book became riveting. I really did not like Simon for half the book. He never does apologize for being so mean to her, and yet I was happy with the HEA and the sweet little epilogue.
Jessica is used to being overlooked. In fact she counts on it to save her from ridicule or worse and to keep her secrets. Fortunately she can read lips... and from great distances! (OK rolling my eyes now)... It's rather like believing that a heroine over the age of 13 can successfully disguise herself as a man. But hey, it's fiction. Just turn up your 'suspension of disbelief' and roll with it. The author does do a credible job of incorporating the characteristics of her deafness into the story. And it does add to the story. Simon has had several years of horrible luck starting with Rosalind (the OW) who played him for a fool, the cloud of suspicion that forces him to flee England for several years, and the atrocities he survives in India, before his return. Only to find out that he is so far in debt there is no hope of saving his estate.

Tek kelimeyle bayıldım!! O kadar güzeldi ki hele o son 50 sayfayı soluksuz okudum. Jessica en sevdiğim favori bayan karakterlerimden biri oldu ve Simon da ara sıra sinir etse de yaşadığı şeyler yüzünden ona da hak verdim. Konusu ilginç ve sizde hemen okuma isteği uyandırıyor :) Kesinlikle okunmalı historical romance sevenler özellikle. Neyse ki bu kitapla son zamanlarda kitap okuyamama durumumu da yendim. :))

Wow, what can I say? I didn’t want to dnf is since it’s the first book of the year.
I HATED the H. He was such an a**hole up until the last 2% of the book, no joke. I mean I understand he suffered (they all do though) but really that’s not an excuse.
The h started out strong and was meek and weak. I was soooo disappointed…
I mean I’m sure being death in those times was horrible and an affliction she tried to hide but really the whole book was riddled with her self doubt and how worthless and flawed she is. ALSO, her eyes kept changing colour - from blue to brown to gold. I guess also the author isn’t too sure about what she looks like. The hair also took every shade of brown imaginable. It’s just inconsistent.
Also, in the epilogue it was announced that the whole ton knows she is death BUT it didn’t say how. I mean 70% of the book was about her not wanting them to find out.
I don’t think Ill try anything from this author again. I guess “Intimate deception” was a lucky off.

Ciddi anlamda sinir krizleri geçirerek okuduğum bir kitabın yorumuyla daha merhabalar.
Geçen ay ne kadar güzeldi. Yalnızca bir kitabı sevmemiştim derken bu ay bitirdiğim iki kitabın da beni delirtmesi üzücü olsa da bu şanssızlığıma alıştım sanırım. Sizi bu korkunç kitapları okumaktan kurtarmak adına uzun bir yorum yapmayı boynumun borcu bilip oturdum yine yazıyorum.
Nereden başlasam?
Kitabın genel olarak vasat olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Dili basit, akıcı sayılabilecek düzeyde, kurgu bir hayli tahmin edilebilir, tarihi aşk etiketiyle basılmış olmasına rağmen içinde belirsiz bir tarih var ve belirsiz detaylar mevcut, entrikası bol bir aşk hikayesi.
Peki ben neden eh işte ya da sevmedim yahut güzel değildi demek yerine sinir krizi geçirdim diyorum? İşte bu kısım uzun kısım dostlar.

Kate, başta güçlü duruşu ile karşımıza çıkıyor. Çok az kişiyle paylaştığı sırrına rağmen kendine yeten ve aklını kullanabilen bir kadın gibi. Güzel bir işi, düzeni vs. olması ciddi anlamda hoşuma gitti derken esas karakter Simon sahneye girdi ve kızımız öyle bir düşüşe geçti ki hala oradan kalkamadı. Düşünmeden yaptıkları, kendiyle çelişen tavrı, adam A derken W anlayarak inat edişi, önyargısı, nahif görünmeye çalışırken (yazar onu nahif göstermeye çalışırken mi demeli?) adeta bir alık haline gelişi, en yapılmayacak şeyleri, en olmadık yerde yapışı derken beni ciddi anlamda delirtti. Onu hiç tanımayan bir adamın kapısını çalıyor, ona bir iş anlaşması teklif ediyor falan... Bunları takmadım bile arkadaşlar. Beni delirten mesela şöyle şeyler: Simon'ın eski nişanlısı sahneye girer, Simon mide bulantısı ile ter döküyordur, kadınla konuşmamak için duyduğu isteği cümle alem duymuştur ama o da ne? Kate, aniden Simon'ın onu küçük düşürmek için kadınla isteyerek görüştüğünü, onu aşağılamak için ikisini karşı karşıya getirdiğini iddia eder. Simon, yok be kadın, ne saçmalıyorsun der ama Kate bunu nasıl anlar? Evet, onu seviyorum ama seninle evlendim, nihahaha! Büşra? Cinnet geçiriyordur. Derken zaman geçer, neredeyse aşklarını itiraf edecek kıvama gelirler. Seni seviyor Simon, seni sevdiğini biliyorum! Simon: Tamam da bana ne be kadın? Umurumda değil, benim için o bitti!
Kate anlar mı? Yok arkadaşlar, siz de amma hayalperest çıktınız. Seni seviyor Simon, ühü ühü ühü, seni elimden alacak, ühü ühü ühü. Simon ve ben? Şok. Dehşet. Vahşet. Kriz. Bu olayın sonunda kızımız neye karar verir bilin? Seni savaşmadan ona bırakmayacağım Simon!

Historical tarzda harika bir kalem ile tanışmanın mutluluğunu yaşıyorum.
Son dönemlerde okuduğum en değişik konuya sahipti. Okurken büyük bir keyif aldım.
Jessica, yakın zamanda 25 yaşına basacak ve babasından kalan büyük bir mirasın sahibi olacaktır. Ve burada kötü çocuk üvey kardeş Colin devreye giriyor. Jessica son 10 yıldır Colin'in öldüğünü biliyor ama aslında ölmemiş Hindistan'da işler karıştıran ve mirasın ortaya çıkacağı günü pusuda bekleyen biri. İşte avukatının önerisi ile Colin'e karşı kendisini koruyabilecek bir koca arayışına çıkar çünkü eğer evli olursa miras tamamen kocasının üzerine geçmiş olacak. Ve burada karşımıza Simon çıkıyor.
O da babasının kumar sevdası ve gereksiz harcamaları nedeniyle iflas bayrağını çekmiş, elinde neredeyse hiçbir şey kalmamış bir Kont. Bunları kurtarmak için paraya ihtiyacı var. Jessica'da ona teklifle gidiyor. Tabi çocuğumuz hemen sen beni ne sandın ayaklarına yatıp gurur bayrağını çekiyor. Sanıyor ki Jessica yalan söylüyor.
Kitapta sürekli bir sırdan bahsediliyor. Jessica üzerinden. Bu tarz kitapları okuyanlar bilir böyle bir şey geçiyorsa ya bakire değildir bir skandalı vardır ya da sadece kötü bir skandalda adı geçmiştir. İnsanın aklına direk bunlar geliyor doğal olarak.. Ama hiçte öyle değildi. Yazar bizi ters köşe yaptı. Bu konuda saygılarımı sunarım ;)
İki karakterde mükemmel değil, mükemmelliği ve tamamlanılmışlığı birbirlerinde keşfediyorlar.
Benim tek sıkıntım sanırım sonlarının biraz aceleye getirildiğini hissetmem. Ve Colin'in olaya kitabın ortalarını geçtikten sonra dahil olması.

Neyse yazarın kalemini çok beğendim doğrusu. Kitapçıya girdiğim zaman kitabına rastladığımda arkasını bile okumadan hiç tereddütsüz satın alırım kesinlikle :)

Historical tarzda harika bir kalem ile tanışmanın mutluluğunu yaşıyorum.
Son dönemlerde okuduğum en değişik konuya sahipti. Okurken büyük bir keyif aldım.
Jessica, yakın zamanda 25 yaşına basacak ve babasından kalan büyük bir mirasın sahibi olacaktır. Ve burada kötü çocuk üvey kardeş Colin devreye giriyor. Jessica son 10 yıldır Colin'in öldüğünü biliyor ama aslında ölmemiş Hindistan'da işler karıştıran ve mirasın ortaya çıkacağı günü pusuda bekleyen biri. İşte avukatının önerisi ile Colin'e karşı kendisini koruyabilecek bir koca arayışına çıkar çünkü eğer evli olursa miras tamamen kocasının üzerine geçmiş olacak. Ve burada karşımıza Simon çıkıyor.
O da babasının kumar sevdası ve gereksiz harcamaları nedeniyle iflas bayrağını çekmiş, elinde neredeyse hiçbir şey kalmamış bir Kont. Bunları kurtarmak için paraya ihtiyacı var. Jessica'da ona teklifle gidiyor. Tabi çocuğumuz hemen sen beni ne sandın ayaklarına yatıp gurur bayrağını çekiyor. Sanıyor ki Jessica yalan söylüyor.
Kitapta sürekli bir sırdan bahsediliyor. Jessica üzerinden. Bu tarz kitapları okuyanlar bilir böyle bir şey geçiyorsa ya bakire değildir bir skandalı vardır ya da sadece kötü bir skandalda adı geçmiştir. İnsanın aklına direk bunlar geliyor doğal olarak.. Ama hiçte öyle değildi. Yazar bizi ters köşe yaptı. Bu konuda saygılarımı sunarım ;)
İki karakterde mükemmel değil, mükemmelliği ve tamamlanılmışlığı birbirlerinde keşfediyorlar.
Benim tek sıkıntım sanırım sonlarının biraz aceleye getirildiğini hissetmem. Ve Colin'in olaya kitabın ortalarını geçtikten sonra dahil olması.
