Blood Lad Omnibus #3

Blood Lad Omnibus, Vol. 3

Rate this book
When Fuyumi is captured, Staz and the others split up to try to locate the missing girl. Bell's space-bending spying, Liz's crystal ball, and Staz's old-fashioned detective work lead them to their culprit: Bell's younger brother?! Like his sister, Knell has dimension-warping abilities, which allowed him to sneak Fuyumi away right from under her protector's nose. Caught between family and friends, will Bell help Fuyumi return to Staz, or will she plant herself firmly between them?!

Exciting volume with tons of revelations, really happy I am re-reading this series, or at least partially, gotta wait until next year Halloween (if I can last that long, haha). In this one tons of revelations, twists and turns, some obvious and some less obvious. I was happy for Fuyumi, but also sad given what we learn. I love that Staz had that talk with a certain someone, I can imagine that that person had that talk, it was needed (though I wonder how much of it Staz did get given the end). And of course there is Braz stuff (dislike the guy so much but it was also fun to see him in another setting) and some other Hell stuff which was fun/interesting/exciting.
All in all, great volume!

There is an interesting mystery that provides the backdrop for this story; a mystery that thus far has been revealed gradually. Two-thirds of the way through this volume, I thought a lame explanation for a part of this mysterious mystery had been revealed. But further on, its lameness was retracted. I'm still really liking this.

The final picture of Staz and Fuyumi climbing stairs towards a door is a beauty; it seems as if I've seen it before.

I had the same reaction to this omnibus volume as I did with the end of the Anime series.

It felt dragged out and a lot of chat when I preferred the fights in this series. However I realise it works building and necessary for the continuation of the series.

The next omnibus would be pretty much all new stuff for me and I look forward to seeing what happens.

A big step up from the 2nd volume as we kind of REALLY settle down into this new world and all its rules, restrictions, politics, and more. I still have some of the same issues with it, though. On to the next!

It was a little slow at the beginning, but the ending was satisfying. Everything is setting up for the real story to begin. Show out to dad's looking out for the best interest of their daughters!

Some may want to know that this omnibus ends at the exact same place that the anime ends. So if you watched the anime and are looking for where to continue the story, you can pick up the fourth omnibus and jump back into the story perfectly.

This omnibus made me realize that my enjoyment of Blood Lad is directly proportional to Braz's screen time, and inversely proportional to Fuyumi's screen time. Braz is the sole character that advances the plot, and the plot is actually really interesting (especially in this omnibus). I can't wait to find out more about his family's back story, his motivation, and his plan. Even the side characters in his part of the story are more interesting to me than the ones on Staz's side of the story. But we're the equivalent of 6 volumes in now, and Fuyumi still has no personality. She doesn't even have an opinion about her own future and what she wants! A main character having no personality is just awful when we're that far into the story. I keep wising that she will become more of a character, but I'm starting to lose my hope at this point.

More is revealed on the culprit who brought Fuyumi to the demon world. Hopefully more is revealed as to why later. I mean is she a pawn in the usurper, demon king's game? Or is she part of Braz's plan to rebel and place a new king on the throne? Either way we see more into her past dealing with her dad, mom, and their connections to the demon world. I hope Staz prepares for the worst, as he is going to need it to protect her until she can be revived. Can't wait to see how he handles the hunters that may be gunning for him in the next volumes.

*On a side note this is an Yen Press omnibus edition which includes two volumes.
