He was definitely ahead of his time. Reading his stories, you can't help to think, how less he cared about the norms of the society and culture that was all around him. You get the feel that he wrote what he wanted to and how he wanted to. Nonchalant attitude , If he felt like the story needed to end, he ended it abruptly, no explanation given-none needed! I like that about him.
If there was ever a writer from Pakistan showing the real face of society without any regrets, then it has to be Manto. All of his stories are a collection of thoughts and opinions emerging from the society we live in. He so openly and with courage shares his own thoughts to reveal the bitter truth of the world we live in. A must read by all those who want to know the answers to our social failure.
Reading his stories was painfully attractive and meaningful at the same time. He depicted the real face of society, which is not seen in any other writings of the time. So skillfully crafted the themes and lessons that one couldn't stop being a part of the story and regret themselves for being a part of a society where Manto lives.
