This is a very large book in a deceptively small package. The thoughts and themes expressed in Jane's poetry will resonate with every woman to her core. As we read these poems, we explore trust, fear, and faith. In 'How to Avoid Being' (p. 3), I nodded to myself as "She was asking for it," reverberated in my head. I really enjoyed this selection of poems. The title poem, "How to avoid being," struck a chord with me. I've thought about the things a woman must go through to avoid being a victim and have done some of the things Rogers mentions. But she ups the ante. Now I have to consider the sinister thought of becoming prey. She follows that with "Behind the sadist's vehicle." I like this feisty attitude. I like how she channels that attitude through "Threads" and "I Never Used to Sing." Overall, a really ...more
