I think the main disadvantage of this book is that it is quite old (published in 1978). While bookbinding is timeless, I felt like a few things were outdated. The type of binding that was described in the book was not the one I was after. I did think that the illustrations were quite informative, and I think it would be easy enough to follow if you were into this kind of skill.

I enjoyed sniffing the pages of the book that I borrowed from my local library a lot more ☺️ And the stamps from 1979 and 1980 that were clearly visible on the pages of that edition sent my mind into conjuring all sorts of stories about readers who might have borrowed it decades before me.

I've personally taken several bookbinding workshops and am looking for good instructional book so I can confidently make books on my own, at home.

This book is very thoroughly illustrated, step by step, for the whole process of making a typical case bound book. Unfortunately, somewhere between unclear instructions or unclear illustrations, I just did not come away feeling like I had the information I needed to make my own case bound book.
