Momma's Magical Purse
Rachael and her cousin David are going on a picnic with Rachael's momma. When the rain starts, Momma is ready with umbrellas and coats. When Rachael trips on a branch, Momma pulls out bandages. Rachael knows Momma's purse is magical-how else could so much stuff fit in there? But David has his doubts . . . until he finds himself in the middle of the lake, and it's up to Momma and her life preserver to save him. A lighthearted romp that is perfect for the purseholder in every family.

Is Mamma's purse really magical? Could it possibly contain anything and everything you might need? Rachael's cousin David is skeptical and sets out to prove otherwise. Even though the illustrations are a little dated (originally published in 2004), this is a fun story.

Summary: This story is about a mother, daughter, and cousin. Momma's daughter, Rachel, and nephew, David, decided to go on a walk one day. Rachel claimed that her Momma's pursue had everything in it. David was skeptical. Throughout the book, readers notice that Momma really does have everything in her pursue, yet David still didn't believe. So he peeked into the pursue and ended up getting himself in trouble. Before he knew it, Momma was rescuing him from drowning. David finally accepted the fact that Momma's pursue had everything in it.
Theme: A theme in this book is motherly instinct. A common belief is that a mother is always prepared. In this story, readers without a doubt can say that this mother was absolutely prepared at all times. She had everything from an umbrella when it rained to food when it was time to eat. Another theme is preparation. The mother was always prepared for everything.

Personal Response: I enjoyed reading this book. In a way, it reminded me of Mary Poppins and her magical bag. Overall, this book was an easy, fun read. It gave insight into how a child views her mother. In this story, Rachel adores her mother.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book because it gives parents and teachers the opportunity to open conversation about what it means to be prepared. Teachers can use this book as an example to challenge students to be ready for class or school. This could include making sure they have everything they need for the day.

The front cover illustration is what caught my attention to this book. The story line of the book began slow for me, but I know if I were to read the book with some young children they would make the book more fun to read. The book has amazing illustrations and a happy storyline. It also shows a bit of sibling rivalry which many kids could relate to.

I read this to a 6 year old and she LOVED IT!!! She picked it by first looking at the cover and then examining the illustrations, which are great. I then read it to her and she really loved talking about the pictures and telling me what was going on. Great book!

This is just a fun book to read aloud. This momma truly has EVERYTHING in her purse. Kids will love to listen to this book and I am sure some kids will probably have a story or two about someone they know who seems to always have everything.

Fun title...Rachael brags that her momma's purse has everything inside and the tale unfolds supporting this claim despite a doubtful cousin. Illustrations add to humor of story.

The book is funny. I like how the dog is curious in the story. It has a short storyline and it easy to follow. I would like to have a magic purse.
